I am now working in Bloomington, IL but I will not go to any other OB/GYN office than Woman to Woman in Crystal Lake. It is an all female staff who are all exceptional.
Hello,
I am searching for an OB/GYN who does not try to bully patients into complying with countless tests and procedures. I am looking for a doctor that can respect that I have a right to ask questions and make choices about my own body without bullying, guilt tripping and scare tactics. I'm the one who gets to live with the choice. I should have the right to at least research what I'm agreeing to. No doctor in their right mind would blindly accept any and all testing without question. Yet, some seem to expect that of their patients.

Why don't you get a midiwfe? It sounds like the midwifery model of care is waht you're looking for. I am not sure where you are but Midwest Midwifery (www.midwestmidwifery.com) has several offices in the area.
I feel the same way as you about blindly following doctors and the one time I saw an OB I was disgusted- I will never go to one again. Also, I work in L & D so I see what goes on behind the scenes- not pretty.
Good luck whatever you decide!
I went to Female Healthcare Associates when I was PG with my daughter. I chose to do the Bradley Method which does not advocate interventions under normal circumstances. I explained to each doctor my feelings and what this meant to me. Most of them accepted what I said. A few of them didn't agree with me but begrudingly let me have my way. I refused many of the tests and towards the end of the pregnancy only had 2 internal exams (my choice both times) as opposed to the 5 they would have done. Once I got to about 39 weeks they started asking me if I was doing an exam today instead of the usualy - strip from the waste down. I appreciated their sensitivity to my beliefs and would recommend anyone to go their. They have several locations throughout the area but I went to the office in bloomingdale.
I hope this helps you.
I would recommend Dr. George Stankevych in McHenry. He is an extremely sensitive, respectful and wonderful physician. Dr. Stankevych has a helpful and nice staff which includes a midwife, Anne Salamone.
I really appreciated my practice - Northwest Women's Consultants in Arlington Heights ... every doctor there was open to what I wanted and didn't want ... I have been going to them for years ...
I love the practice I go to: Suburban Women's Health Specialist's. They have two offices, one in Elgin and another in Algonquin. The one in Algonquin is a brand new office and even offers some facial and massages through a company they joined with called Aesthestic Concepts. They have 3 main doctors (Dr. Epstein, Dr. Michael, and a new woman Dr. Nettleton) and a midwife on staff at both facilities and quite a few nurses. I have never had any problems with them, and Dr. Epstein was able to save a family member's uterus when most others would have elected to take it.
I currently have an issue where Dr. Michael gave me time to get back to him with a decision to let me research how things would affect me, and he's been great!
Elgin office # ###-###-####.
I have to add a second vote for Suburban woman's health specialists. All 3 of the doctors are great, especially Dr. Michaels who is absolutely the best ob/gyn that I've ever had. He is so awesome that when I mentioned that I hoped that he was on call when I delivered, he said to have them call him even if he was off and he'd come into and deliver my baby. He was kind and compassionate and has a reputation as a hot shot ob/gyn at the local hospitals. He's also a cutie, lol He looks like John Stamos which always picked up my mood, lol
I agree Suburban women's health is also good. I used to work alongside Dr michael, Dr Epstein and Nettleton. Dr Nettleton is such a gem and the only lady doctor in the group. DOn't go to their other site at Greater Elgin Family Care center -- that place is run by dogs and very disorganized, crowded, and just crazy. See if you can just see them in their own office. A side note - Dr Epstein has been cited for having sexual relationship with one of his patients, it's on the Illiois Dep of Professional Regulations discliplinary actions, and in various articles. So be careful if u see him...
I go to Dr. Kim McMahon at Ob/Gyn Specialists of Northwestern at 680 Lake Shore Drive. I love her and although I live in Cary, I go back to her for every annual and would absolutely have a next child with her. She is so open and not at all judgemental about a womans personal decisions. She is so easy to talk to and when you get a test result back, she is the one who calls, not the nurses or assistants. They have a website...I'm sure if you do a agoogle search is will come up...
I REALLY like the Rush-Copley OB/GYN practice after going to a few different ones. They are WONDERFUL!! With Dr. Richard Tom, Dr. Andrea Jones, Dr. Bernardita Druhan, etc. They are ALL great to work with! Even though it's quite a ways from us, I'm going back there despite the drive because I love it there so much! They are VERY personable and great to work with! Best wishes to you!
Fox Valley Women's Healthcare in Elgin. I have recommended them multiple times on here in the business section. They also have a midwife who is fantastic. They let you make the choices in your care and the staff is fantastic. I could not make a more positive reccomendation.
Everyone is going to have their own opinion on OB's, so I think you are going to have to just sit and do interviews with them. I went to Women to Women in Crystal Lake. Although I was impressed at first (They ARE a wonderful office) they are just too busy slack off and no communication between docs. So you can have a wonderful caring doc, but when there is more then one doc taking care of you, no one communicates.I was so impressed withthem for a time being and I even referred people to them and their experiances where the same as mine, so you know that is aproblem. Also, you will get whomever when you deliver (unless a c sec of course) I am on the search for a new OB/Midwife as well and I am just doing the interview route. I guess after having a baby and going through the experiance, I have learned I will have a louder voice next time and be in charge of my body and baby. Good Luck :)
