Selling Things on Craigslist

How do you determine your prices?

Things like baby clothes etc... $1 a piece, $2? Not for anything super special...

I always feel like I price myself out of contention and I am just looking to get rid of all this stuff in my house!!

What can I do next?

Honestly, for baby cloths, I am not going to drive somewhere to dig through a few old outfits I see on craigslist. The best way I have seen it done is selling it in lots, like a box of close sizes all sold as one unit.

I agree with all the ladies on here . . . I myself had bags of "stuff" that I was trying to sell on CL and after weeks of no interest I donated all of the clothes. The toys, well I ended up having a garage sale and priced everything to sell because again, I was tired of looking at it. Unless it is a big item or something I am truley looking for I wont drive out to someones house to dig through a bag of clothes. Good luck to you!

Baby clothes: keep old diaper boxes, sell each box for $20, NO DIGGING through the boxes... I usually lay everything out, list the sizes/seasons, what's included, take a few pictures, list a few of the brands in there, then sell each box for $20 (again, no digging, pick a box for $20) or you can buy the whole lot for $'x', meaning, if I have a total of 12 boxes, you can buy it all for $100 ($40 off buying them individually)... I've never had a bad experience doing it this way, and people are always THRILLED at the way I stuff those box to the max, so they're ending up paying pennies for each item if they buy the whole lot. I actually have one dedicated buyer for my daughters clothes, and one dedicated buyer for my son's old stuff... they get first dibs before I put this stuff on craigslist!

you have a better chance selling an entire lot for say $25.
also, i would be safe and have a garage sale type setup in the garage.
then have everyone come when someone is there with you in the garage.

I agree that a "lot" is the way to go. Group the same size clothes, lay out that group, take a picture and price it very reasonably for it to go fast!

I'd rather sell it for a little less and have it picked up right away.

if you aren't going to sell them in a "lot" - don't bother with craigslist. people who shop there aren't looking for one pair of pants.

ebay would be your best bet for that.

if you are not looking to make money and only want to get rid of it - use freecycle or donate it.

I have never had good luck with clothing on Craigslist. I have sold individual pricier items - like a namebrand winter coat or a namebrand holiday dress, snowboarding clothes, costumes, etc - on eBay.
For the rest of the clothing that my kids have outgrown I do an online clothing swap. I use thredup.com. I love it! You list your clothes by the box which is gender/size specific. Someone buys it and you ship it to them (no cost to you). You then earn credits that you combine with money to buy boxes from other people. A box is like $15 and has ALOT of clothes in it. My last box probably had 8 pairs of girls size jeans in it. My boxes usually have about 10 items in them. It depends upon size and bulk.

Try to group things in a lot and sell them that way. Also, you can try selling a whole bag of clothing for $20.00 (like 25 items). Always list and picture the items in the bag.

I usually put a price of what I would be willing to pay for those things. If it is a name brand outfit with multiple pieces, you can easily get $10.00 for some of these things.

Go with putting it in lots, we always figure what we paid and ask for at the most 50% of the cost.. it all depends on what it is though. Funny enough we have a listing up now and you are guaranteed to get some scam emails. If the email asks you nothing about the product or if they don't even try to talk to you about price and the english is broken, please don't respond. We had 2 different items up in electronics and I got the SAME email from the same scammer for both. I sent an email back saying "IF you're planning on scamming someone try not to send the same email to the same person selling 2 different items and LEARN ENGLISH." They responded that they were satisfied with the condition of the item and were ready for purchase that they'd send me a certified check, all they needed was my full name and home address.. LOL. I know I'm rambling but it was really annoying.. and sad people still fall for it.

I always price .50 cents a piece and I do like a package deal where I take a few dollars off the over all price. I usually sell my stuff within a few days, usually the first day. Good luck!

I don't know that I'd bother selling clothes on CL. People are looking for items for dirt cheap or even free, sometimes on there. I would either give them to someone I knew that was in need, or (what we normally do) donate to an emergency family shelter, or a similar place. The tax deduction is nice, as well.

The only thing I can add is to look at CL for your area and see what other people are doing, how much they're charging, etc for similar items. Then price your stuff for less so it will sell the fastest.

Donate to goodwill etc. Less hassle and it makes your heart grow bigger. Unless you know a family in need to give it to.

If you don't know anyone that needs them, I would just donate to Goodwill or the Salvation Army instead of trying to sell them. Make sure you get a receipt and then you can use it as a tax deduction.

I vote donating to Goodwill, Salvation Army, Women's Shelter, etc.....

You get a tax deduction and someone else gets some decent clothes to wear for a while.

A win win for everyone... I have 4 bags going to the women's shelter today.
