Self-tanning Lotion Stains

I used some self-tanning lotion last year and it left stains on my knees. I have tried everything I can think of but the stains just won't go away. It's been over a year since I used the lotion so they apparently aren't going to wear away. Does anyone have any suggestion of what I can do to get rid of these spots?

What can I do next?

Try lemon - rub the rind over the stain. I've had it remove stubborn stains from my skin - it is also good for pain. Good luck!

After a year you should have naturally shed your epidermis. The skin that you had a year ago is gone. I would recommend seeing a doctor. By the way, which product did you use?

Have you tried hydrogen peroxide? I had a friend a long time ago who made a streak in her fake tan with hydrogen peroxide. So maybe... GL!

I would try a heavy duty exfoliating cream with a loofah or pumice stone.

I use a dry very rough/plush washcloth and rub my knees. Sometimes I put just a dab of water on it. I can see the tan color on the washcloth and it just blends the color in a bit.
I have very rough knees and always have the tan darker on them. I have heard that if you put some lotion on your knees before you apply the tan - that it stops that stain on the knees. Hope this helps.

Might use this as a last resort, but I know when using nail polish on my toenails, after several months they look stained. I soak in bleach for about 30 seconds and rub with an old toothbrush. They come white and clean agian...

You could try rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball.
If nothing works, maybe mention it to your Doctor.

I wouldn't think the tanner would still be on your sking after all this time, however, strange things are known to happen.

Try good old hydrogen peroxide. That stuff is amazing!!! Natures miracle. It works on cuts, skin rashes, sun burns... you name it....and it's great at getting stains out. Give it try, it won't hurt to try....and it's gentle...not a harsh chemical.

Much Luck!

I have never heard of self tanner that stayed on the skin for a year; might not hurt to mention it to your doctor the next time you have an appointment.

One thing that has always worked for me to remove self tanner is hair remover lotion/cream like Nair, Veet, etc. Put it on your legs and wait the recommended time for hair removal, then wash off. Good luck!

What about lemon juice? I've hear of putting it on elbows that are naturally darkened. You just slice a lemon in half and hold it on there for about 3-5 minutes. Then exfoliate with a good moisturizing body scrub. Otherwise, I think Sephora or Ulta carry a self-tanner removal cream. I think it's rather expensive but I'm assuming you're kind of desperate to get rid of the darkening at this point.

I get rough and dry skin on my knees, ankles and heals. These are the places where sunless tanning likes to stick. Have you tired to exfoliate the area to remove dead skin? You'll need a "scrub" and maybe a loofah. Hopefully this will remove the stains. I find that when I exfoliate and moisturize a few times before I use sunless tanning, it goes on more evenly. I also put a heavy-duty moisturizer on those tough areas as a barrier to prevent it from getting in those fine lines.

Hope this helps you.
