I heard from someone that has one, that they work really good! I don't have a cat, but if i did i would probably try that because i hate scooping poop also!
I have been thinking about getting one of those litter boxes that cleans itself. Has anyone had good or bad experiences with them and which brand? I am really tired of scooping! My cat isn't picky about what litter I use and I don't think she would be afraid of it. (a friend said her cat wouldn't use it as he was afraid of it) I just don't want to buy one to find out it doesn't work or find out I should have bought the other brand.

My brother has one. It still has to be cleaned out but it does stop the daily scooping.
Probalby 15 years ago I putchased a Littermaid and LOVED it until it broke down five years later. I figured five years was a pretty good life span of the box so I purchased another one. Well...I don't know what they changed, but I couldn't get the new ones to work for more than a month at a time. After purchasing and exchanging THREE more Littermaids we gave up and started looking for other options. Now we have a Litter-Robot. It was pricy at $250.00, but it is WAY better than the Littermaid. We've had it now for 7 or 8 years and, knock on wood, haven't had any problems and LOVE it. We have two cats and enpty the drawer and add more litter twice a week. Here's their website, www.liter-robot.com. They list for $329.00 on their website, but I know you can find them cheaper if you just search the web...that's what we did.
Good Luck,
D.
My cats are indoor/outdoor cats so they go outside to take care of things - it is wonderful not to scoop. Don't know if that is an option for you...
I had the Littermaid Plus for YEARS and loved it! I had two male cats and it kept up really well with them and their waste. The liners are pricey, but (like the previous poster mentioned) I just re-used them. I'd dump them out daily, sprinkle baking soda in there and it they would last until they fell apart. I used regular clumping litter, I could never find the stuff I was suppose to be using. I think I used Tidy Cats Multiple Cats clumping litter most of the time. It kept the smell down and worked just fine in the box. I would recommend using some type of mat underneath of it, our cats tracked the litter EVERYWHERE! I think I paid close to $100 for the litter box and it lasted me almost 4 years. Well worth the investment!
My cat was pretty scared of it, as was my neighbor's who we got it from. It may work better for the kitty, but your older cat is probably pretty set in his ways.
I would suggest trying Crais'g List or Freecycle. Then if it does not worrk for you, it was a smaller investment.

Hi. I bought a Litter Maid Plus at Walmart around February and so far I really like it, However the litter disposal trays are a bit pricey. I use one for about a month at a time and then replace it. If it gets terribly soiled I wash it out with dish soap and it works great. The thing I don't like is you must use a premium litter which is very costly. And the box only waits about 7 or so minutes before it scoops so some times it has not got hard enough to scoop and gets stuck in the spokes of the rake. I have four adult cats using it and it works very well. However my female had 6 kittens and ever since they started using it I have had some problems with it I assume it is because their BM is so soft so I am constantly cleaning it any ways. This week 4 of the kittens go to new homes and another the following week. I am keeping the runt he is just so darn sweet. But over all I like it.
I just dump the tray in a plastic trash bag and replace it. Be sure you look for the fill lines on the side of the litter pan, if you get too much litter in it, it will just keep scooping. Also mine will run on 8 D batteries or electric.

We had one and I was not happy with it. Two main problems that may have been fixed by now.
1. We have two big cats and it didn't seem able to keep up.
2. Sometimes, the cats 'miss' and go on the side of the machine and that was hard to clean.
