Try a throwback classic series - Underworld, Terminator, Aliens, Rocky, Die Hard, Twilight, Austin Powers...
We just saw Princess Bride...I haven't seen that movie in years and I'm happy to say the humor has withstood the test of time.
Since the video stores have all gone away I am not sure what movies are new to DVD. I do stop and look at the Red Box once in a while and look through the Video on Demand new releases. It just seem like it has been a long time since I've seen a good movie. What movies have you seen recently that you have enjoyed? I like most genres, but not kids movies.
I ended up watching Moonrise Kingdom and Flight (Denzel). Both were good.

Older one but saw it again the other night- Super 8. It's a coming of age/alien movie set in the 70s. That's so my childhood! The attitudes, the hairstyles, the cars, the clothing- it brought it all back. The music! The music! JJ Abrams - enough said.
Loved the Bourne Legacy
I loved the old Les Mis with Liam Neeson.
It's not out on DVD yet but I loved Les Miserables. My daughter has Netflix and watches lots of movies. It's only $8.95/mos and they stream directly to her TV thru their Wii console. There is no contract. i.e. if you want you can take it only for a month.
The new Total Recall is out for rental now, it was actually really good. My dh wanted to watch it, I ended up enjoying it also. The newer Batman movie was a stinker.
Look for the Hobbit once it comes out on DVD.
I second the recommendation for Bernie, my favorite movie of 2012. If you are thick skinned and like rated r humor, Ted was hilarious. Not meant for kids, AT ALL! If you haven't watched Doubt from a few years ago, it was really, really good. Same for Crash, it won best picture about 5 years ago and deserved the accolade. Another movie for thick skinned (due to language) is Gran Torino...great movie!
My new favorite classic is Funny Girl. I never watched it until my dgtr fell in love with Barbra Streisand. The humor is way before it's time.
Happy Movie Time!!
I recently watched Crazy Stupid Love on HBO and it was hilarious...also, another one that is good is Dan In Real Life with the same actor Steve Carrell (sp)
The last good movie I watched was 'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy'...I know it's not a new movie but it was good.
'Trouble with the Curve' was good too...I like justin Timberlake.
I also recently rented 'Cosmopolis' on OnDemand, it's a strange movie...Robert Pattinson did an OK job, just wish I could have gotten through the whole book before I watched the movie...but alas, I couldn't.
Some of my favorites, if you are looking to rent (like at Hastings or Netflix or something) is:
Green St. Holligans
17 Again
Crazy, Stupid Love
Boondock Saints
The Outsiders
Dreamcatcher (Stephen King)
The Shawshank Redemption - A Classic!
The Replacements - Football movie w/Keanu Reeves
I also LOVE to sit and watch a whole season of a TV show in one sitting! Some of my favs that I recently finished/started are:
Dexter - So sad it's over!
True Blood - Of Course! Good show but better books!
Elementary - It's a new one but its on OnDemand!
Nashville - Same as above
Vegas - Same as above
Parenthood - Love this one! Also on OnDemand, all 4 seasons!
Wedding Band - Just found it and it's cute!
Recent stuff: I really liked Moonrise Kingdom, Wes Anderson's most recent movie. (Warning: I do tend to enjoy quirky films!) Also liked "Safety Not Guaranteed"; both were imaginative, engaging and I did not regret staying up a little late to watch them. (And I cannot say the same for quite a few movies.) "Bernie" with Jack Black and Shirley Maclaine was also a great pick and both my husband and I were saying "wow" after watching. Very unique, fascinating movie.
Also, if you like a relatively safe pick, you can go on Rotten Tomatoes website and go to the 'dvd' section; there, you can scroll through the picks and find what's done well with both critics and audiences and what just tanked.
I seriously missed TV/movies for about ten years! In the past five weeks I watched Sons of Anarchy, Breaking Bad and am on season 2 of 24. Gotta love Netflix!!!
dont know if its for rent yet. I liked 7 Psychopaths. most recent one I watched
When Parental Guidance comes out on DVD you must see. Absolutely hysterical and very sweet.
watched a totally goofy, quirky movie on Netflix.....Gunless. Laughed all the way thru it. Total escapism & break from reality. Pretty much as goofy as a Mel Brooks movie. :)
other than that.....I've been browsing thru tv series on Netflix. & reading a lot!
Just saw Jack Reacher--FANTASTIC!!
We've watched some pretty good Netflix movies lately.
The Lincoln Lawyer
Hell (subtitled)
Buried
The Next Three Days (Very good!)
This months new movies bought to my home.
Warrior... Its amazing. I cried!
War Horse. Have not seen it yet but tonight will be the night.
The old count of monte cristo.
guardian
legends of the fall
and the jeff dunham movies.
I like musicals and loved pitch perfect and rock of ages!
October Baby was good.
I watched Bernie last week and laughed so hard I wet my pants! Jack Black at his best, but the funniest was the interviews with the neighbors.
Looper was great also!
Men in Black 3 was almost as good as the first one.
If you have kids, Sofia the First is good for little girls and Blue Mountain Mystery is a good Thomas one that just came out too.
