I'm in Oak Lawn, and there are day care programs in the area that offer transportation to and from schools from the day care facility. I am unclear as to what happens once your step-son returns home. Is there a care giver there that cannot leave the house for some reason to pick him up from school? Also, a lot of day care facilities offer kindergarten too and are open from 6am-6pm. We use Oak Lawn Day Nursery (part of a church) on 91st and Ridgeland. Southwest Chicago Christian also has day care/kindergarten. They are expensive, but if you use a reglious organization, you get two tax deductions - one is a day care expense and the other is a "chartiable gift" deduction. The organization will give you a statement at tax time letting you know how much you can claim on your taxes as "chartiable gift". I think you also get a better education with private, religious organizations.
