We want something to do in Austin and have never been there before. Our boys are 19 & 17, and love adventure. If anyone knows of anything to do or anywhere to stay, please send ideas. Thanks for any help.

We are from Austin and we miss it! If you are willing to drive just a bit further I would suggest two things. First there is Perdenales Falls State Park a bit outside Austin. It is beautiful and a great place to go hiking. Second there is Enchanted rock which is a bit further past Perdenales Falls and is also a State Park. The hike up Enchanted Rock is fantastic and the view is great once you are there. We have taken our kids there many times ages (2 thru 12) and they love it. Both place offer many levels of hiking for the novice and up.

We enjoyed the natural bridge caverns, and our kids are 14 and 16. Also, Lost Maples State Park is nearby, and it's beautiful. Depending on your time frame and drivingroute, Fredrichsburg is nearby and quaint, and Lukenbach (home to local C&W music).

Enchanted Rock. There's a cave at the top and it is a great hike. Your boys would LOVE it.

Hello,

I have loved Austin since first visiting when I was 16.. I am now 34 and my favorite outdoor thing to do there is visit Mount Bonnell. It is the highest point in Austin.. with beautiful views of the city. You can hike there, picnic, etc. Here is a link:

I was just reading a post to a question about birthday ideas and someone suggested Cypress Valley Canopy Tours which is 30 miles west of downtown Austin. They have zip line tours of the 100 ft. tall cypress trees and there is also a private lake for swimming (might be a little cold for that at spring break) and a picnic. I can't speak for this first-hand as I have never been, but it sounds really fun (especially for thrill seekers).

Austin is such an awesome town!! Consider walking/running or even rowing on Town Lake (now called Lady Bird Johnson Lake).

Go to Lake Travis, visit the Dam, take a walking tour of THE University of Texas, the stadium etc.

Go to Zilker Park, walk around 6th street at night or during the day. There are lots of restaurants between 4th and 6th streets. Visit Congress Ave south of the lake. There are a ton of funky shops selling vintage stuff as well as great restaurants.

Look up the event/dining guide to Austin to search more specific things you like to do. I think it is called Austin 360.

Good luck and enjoy!
