Hello Moms-
My mother just turned 60 this year. Her and my Dad have some friends(other couples) that live further away but my Mom is starting to feel really lonely not having any girlfriends to go have fun with. My Dad is a workaholic and is either working at work or doing projects at home. When he isn't doing projects, he's on the couch. They occasionally do things but not enough to really keep my Mom happy with her social life! They both still work and are also frustrated that they can not retire for about 5 more years when all of their friends are retired. I tried looking up social groups for her age in her area but came up short. Most groups are for young moms, young working women or older divorced women. My Mom is a wonderful 60 year old married woman of 3 grown children and one grandson. She lives in the Perkasie/Hilltown area. Does anyone know of any great social events, groups, sites or anything of the sort that I could refer her to? She's just really looking for a girlfriend to chat with, take walks, just be a friend. Any advice would be much appreciated!
church groups good idea, local recreation dept might run classes for her age group, meetup based on what she likes to do some social groups very in ages like here in lehigh valley we have meet and mingle with all ages 30-70,
If not too far for her, there is off the couch gang many 50 and 60 year olds married, single, etc.

'HI' . I am also in your moms position. I am soooo busy . I have to say ,'no' to social things .
#1= mom is married . be careful w/ groups ... peoples our age are looking for a MATE ! be careful #1
2= my kids grew up and moved away . grand child even grew up .I still work full time [ love my job] , hence, all my friends DIED and or COUNTING down to retirement !!!
your mom has to get past this fact of life ...
it is hard .
3= I found things I love , I have a passion for ..
I did not go CRAZY with volunteering ... just help w/ things . I met a new bach of FRIENDS ALL AGES !!!!
4= I love babies . I help moms w/ special needs children .. just help ...for free when I want .
5= I love drama ... I help w/ school plays that are in my area ... they love my help .
6= I made my own social circle ... alot more fun.
now, I bet your mom can COOK. show up @a local soup kitchen [ friends for life]
7= I bet your mom can help READ to the blind or
church sunday school , or sew ...anything that mommy has a passion for ... their is a silent need for an angel ...friends [ of all ages] will emerge ...
what a kind child to care about parents ..
ps = mom & dad are real young yet ..... dad is just fine!

The only thing I can think of is to look for something in her area on Meetup.com. Thay have 1000's of group and they include everything and all ages. Or is there a YMCA/YWCA in the area? They might have some things she would like. Sorry I can't be of more help. Good Luck!
Our church has an extremely active "seniors" group. They have knitting circles, monthly lunches, movie nights, and outings. They also are very active in community service projects--usually collecting donations (clothes, food, used cell phones) for a group in need. Our church also has walking groups and book clubs and support groups for women of all ages. If there is a church that is similar to her beliefs, it is powerful way to connect with others.
