Seeking Reliable Landscape Designer for Back Patio

I know I am responding super late, so this response may not help you anymore. I just had my townhome backyard redone. I used a guy named Mark at Maricopa Spas (____@____.com). I had to remove rocks (not as hard as concrete) which he then replaced with artificial turf. He came out and looked at my backyard and then provided me with a few drawn out design recommendations within a day or two. I also added curbing and vines along the back wall, plus stepping stones where I have my outdoor table. He was very easy to work with and extremely flexible as I was constantly changing my mind. The end result was great and my son loves the artifical turf. I love the fact the grass looks perfect all the time and i have to do nothing to maintain it.

It sounds like you are on the right path looking for a designer to help get your ideas onto a workable plan. You want your design to be functional and also create a feeling of a continuation from the interior of your home. After the layout of the design is established, you will need to consider which materials will accomplish the look and feel you are after.
Once you have a scaled plan ready it will be easier for you to get estimates from multiple contractors and keep them focused which should allow you to compare quotes with more accuracy.

We just went through this last month. We had our entire front yard relandscaped. Removed old concrete, put down over 600 sq ft of pavers, granite, mounds, boulders, plants, lighting, and drip for plants and trees. We interviewed 5 different companies in the end. We loved who we picked. Hawkeye Landscaping. Our contact was Kelly Burns, he was great. He worked with us on everything to get it into our budget but still make it look fabulous. The crew was great. The foreman on the job, had more great ideas and we could not be happier with the job from all angles, a great experience, of course except for the hit to the pocket book, lol.
