My husband and I are planning a trip to Rome for Labor Day weekend. We have never been to Rome and all that I keep hearing about are the pickpockets. I would like some referrals/advice on places to stay in Rome and/or any other advice you can give. We have two children that we will be travelling with that are ages 3 and 13 months.
We had a great time in Rome. We decided to go with the USO. We were able to use the internet there and book tours. They also arranged for a car to pick us up from the airport. It was worth it because we flew in at 9pm. There were very helpful and gave us about 4 bed and breakfasts to choose from that were all near the USO. The place was small but clean and the staff was friendly. It was very safe because there was an iron gate that you had to go through in order to get access to the front door. We stayed at the Vatican Garden Inn. Its not the most pretty side of town, but it was lots of traffic and people around. I didnt take a purse or anything of that nature. My husband wore his military arm band that has a zippered pouch for money and credit cards. We really enjoyed Rome. Thanks for all of the input.

Hi B.,
When my family and I stayed in Rome, we went with a Bed & Breakfast. It's smaller and more family oriented. I think my son was 1.5 years and my daughter was 8. They were very accomadating. Another thing to keep in mind is the taxi service. From the airport to the center of Rome cost us 70 euro. We later learned that we could've had the pensione pick us up for 35 euro. Oh well...live and learn.
We loved Rome and it's an experience that my oldest (as well as my husband and myself) will never forget.
Good luck!

Have you contacted the USO? They have hotels they recommend. Their website is http://www.uso.it/
Hi B.,
I have a friend who has been there a couple times. I'll ask her where they stayed and I'll get back to you.

OK,
So how did it go and where did you stay? We are new to Italy and I'd love to hear the high and low points of your trip. The only part of Rome we've seen so far is the airport when we went through the cursory customs line and changed planes to Naples.
Thanks,
K.
We went to Rome a couple years ago. We have found using www.laterooms.com is really helpful. We got a 4 star hotel close to everything for 60 euros. Some hotels are willing to take a big loss rather than have the room empty! It worked for us. Enjoy Rome!
We just got back from Rome.It is better to get a hotel not in the center of Rome itself, and just take public transportation to get where you need to go.If you try to stay in the center of Rome the hotels are more expensive. We paid 8euro for a ticket that worked all day on the trains, bus and shuttles,so it was much cheaper that way.Hope this help, have a good time it is breath taking!!!!!!!!
