Hi. I just learned I am pregnant with #2, and am looking for a female to provide care and attend the delivery. I am wanting recommendations for either a doc or midwife in the Littleton/South Denver area, preferably that delivers at Littleton Hospital. I am wanting someone that would be very respectful of a really natural birth--no epidural, induction, episiotomy, little monitoring, no IV, etc.... I know many docs say they are fine with that kind of thing, but end up not really being fine with it--they want to be more hands on than that. So... I wondered if you moms out there had some good recommendations for me, for docs or midwives you have used. I have a male doc I could use, but I am really looking for a good female doc/midwife. I have looked in to Mountain Midwifery, but would really prefer a hospital birth. So, seeking recommendations! Thanks!

Dr. Melissa Zart at Ridgegate OBGYN (Skyridge) is awesome! Her mom is a midwife, so she has a slightly different perspective than most doctors. I had to have an emergency C-section because of twins and pre-eclampsia, but had a birthplan for a completely natural birth and she was fine with it. I can't recommend her enough.

I am an RN at a hospital downtown, and wanted a health care provider who would allow me to be as natural as possible w/everything, but who would also use a sound mind and good medical judgement in intervening as necessary for the safety of the baby and myself. Anyway, i used a Certified Nurse Midwife for both my children, and i was SO happy with both births! The second birth i was able to go natural and had no tears/episiotomy, etc. I had an epidural with the first, but all turned out well. I labored in the water with both; I recommend The Colorado Nurse Midwives (their office is off of Cherry St. off CO Blvd). They do not deliver at Littleton, i don't believe, but they deliver at St. Luke's, a great medical center. I would stay in the hospital or birthing center to have your baby, in case complications arise (i have seen many!!), and would advise a medical professional deliver your baby.

The midwives at swedish medical center are amazing! They delivered both of my babies and I adore them. I work closely with them as a doula and they take alot of time with their clients, you always feel like you are the only person in their schedule, they have a great sense of humor and support natural birth amazingly! I reccomend them highly. The midwives in the group are Anne Walters, Jennifer Whalen and Susan Mccanaughy. Amazing group of women! They work out of the hospital, but offer more of a birth center feel which is no IV unless emergency and you being able to catch your baby or push in any position, you can eat ect... Great group to deliver with at the hospital.
Have had 4 kids, first 2 with a midwife, 3rd with a female OB. but it was such a different experience ultimately at the delivery, I regretted not having my midwives so I went back to them for my 4th baby. LOVE LOVE LOVED LOVED my midwives! They are very willing to let your body perform what it knows how to do but able to step up if the situation warrants assistance. I was with Aurora Nurse Midwives (all women) but I know there are a ton around Denver. All my midwife deliveries have been at a hospital. Felt very safe and their bedside manner is so amazing. They are there during labor, not just swooping in for the delivery. Invaluable and affordable! Good luck!
Congratulations M.! I am also a doula, that is affliated at Mountain Midwifery, but if you don't want to birth with them, I would suggest the Center For Midwifery at university hospital. They are wonderful as are the midwives at the birth center. If you really do want to birth at Littleton, I would defiently get a doula to ensure that your birth goes as close to plan as possible. I would suggest a doula no matter where your birthing, they are a great help for both you and your birthing partner. Let me know if you have any questions, I'm happy to help!
I had a great experience with the Midwifery Group at Swedish. Another poster referred to them already - just wanted to second it. I was able to squat for delivery, my husband was able to catch, waited for umbilical cord to stop pulsing, okay with labor being directed by my body's needs. Great postpartum and general gynecological care also.

I do not have a recommendation for you at or near Littleton. However, I would like to direct you to Mountain Midwifery. They are a group of midwives here in Denver and they also run the only birthing center here in Denver. I currently work as a Doula, but am not affiliated with Mountain Midwifery, and we are always happy to hear of someone wanting as little intervention as possible. Mountain Midwifery is located near Swedish hospital. I have heard wonderful things about them and will attach their website so you can check it out.
