Hi,
I am looking for an understanding pychiatrist in the area of Katy. I have a disabled child and a normal (please excuse the use of the word NORMAL) and need someone to talk to. I am on medication for depression and have been in Texas for about 4 months. I am getting low on my meds and need to see someone. My husband is stressing me out and I am very angry with him.
I sufferned from depression for a long time, probably from when my autistic child was born. He always was sick as a baby, and it was not fun. I am not orignaially from the US and have no family or friends here.

I have a child that I have custody of and due to a lot of things that she went through prior her coming to live with has been having a lot of issues. We take her to Bear Creek Counseling Center and they are doing a great job with our child, but they also work with adults. They are located at 16100 Cairnway #300, Houston, Tx 77084 and their phone number is ###-###-####. They are located off of Hwy 6 and Clay Road. We use Jennifer, but Steve is also wonderful.

I would recommend Dr. Aaron Fink. He is not in Katy, he's on Post Oak closer to town but when it comes to mental health, I think it is worth the drive.

W.,
I read your entry and felt like I was reading an entry from my own diary. WOW! I too have autistic children, twins, with other medical challenges as well. I also have two other typical children. I have been on meds for years and see the most amazing doctor. Her name is Dr. Lisa Josen. She is in the Champions area, but well worth the drive. My children see her as well for their medication needs. She is an abolute angel! W., please know that you can email me any time. I know how isolating it can feel in a new area, with extra challenges in tow. Please know you are not alone!

I know a good place to start W. Deborah Krummel she is a therapist but can send you to a pychiatrist for the area for your medication. Deborah is very good I have worked with her for years and she has seen me though a lot. I would recommand her to anyone. I am including their website address and phone number. They are located on the Katy Freeway.

Dear W., first of all welcome to Texas! As for you request I personally cannot relate to your specific problem although I can relate to feelings of frustration and helplessness. I used to work with special needs children in the school district and have friends with special needs children. I know it takes a lot more out of you. I can't recommend a doctor but I can recommend The Great Physician. No matter what you may be going through, God is bigger than your problem and He can & will get you through it. All you have to do is ask Him.

milton altschuler, also not in katy, but excellent! he knows his stuff, and as well as being knowledgable with his meds, he is also a counselor, a great one. not all docs do both. he is not cheap, but you seem like you are in need of both medicine and some talk therapy. pm me if you want his info. hang in there-

I'm so sorry for the pain you are experiencing. I, too, have an autistic child, although he's now 26 and doing very well. He lives at home and goes to a day habilitation program in the Cypress area which he loves.

I don't know of a good psychiatrist in the Katy area, but my heart went out to you, and I just HAD to write you. One suggestion would be to find a family doctor who might give you a month's prescription of your meds and recommend a psychiatrist for you to see. Have you met any neighbors who could recommend a good family doctor?

I always try to encourage moms of autistic children. Things DO get better with lots of work. Your child is entitled to certain things in Texas, like early childhood education, limited student/teacher ratio and structured environment at school. YOU are entitled to parent education, as well as other things. Katy is a good school district for special education, and I would recommend going to your local elementary school or even the Director of Special Education and asking for evaluations of your son. They are required by law to do this for you.

I hope things improve for you at home. Support is what you need now, not unrest at home. God bless you.

S.

Hi W.!

First off, are you wanting to go through your insurance or are you planning on paying out of pocket? If you need to go through your insurance, I'd be happy to take a look at practitioners on your plan and in your area (most insurance companies have their practitioner lists on the web).

If insurance is not an issue (or she is on your plan), Dr. Christell Lara is a great place to start--not just a med manager, but also incorporates theraputic practice as well.

Psychiatric Center of Katy

Best of luck!
