Seeking Pediatrician Supportive of Breastfeeding

My son is 16 months and I like his pediatrician's office - their nurses are great, and we ALWAYS can get in for appointments when we need them... HOWEVER, at my son's 12 month appointment, our pediatrician said, "You're going to cut this [breastfeeding] out by 15 months, right?" As if it was wrong to do! I felt personally attacked. He doesn't seem flexible in supporting a family's right to choose. It isn't like I plan to nurse forever, and my son does drink whole milk too. I only nurse him once a day.

We're somewhat new to the area and found this office from friends who've lived here for years. We're in Allen but I'm willing to drive to Frisco/Plano/Richardson/Allen for a good doctor. Does anyone have a pediatrician you recommend who is supportive in this regard? I'm just really turned off by his apparent inflexibilty on this matter... And if/when we have another child, I will want and need someone who is in my corner.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks so much, mommas! We've found a new pediatrician that we're going to try in a couple of weeks. We're definitely going to switch, but are just not sure to whom. Isn't it nuts that insurance companies make you officially switch your PCP before you can even try out a new one?!?

My pediatrician is absolutely fabulous and she is a being supporter of breastfeeding as long as you feel comfortable with it. I nursed my son until 18 months and my daughter to 15 months.

I recommend Dr. Chris Clark. He is in the Richardson location though. He is a family doctor and everyone in my extended family goes to him. He is awesome. he is very supportive on what you feelings are and will stand behind them. He is located off of 75 and Campbell in the Richardson Regional Medical Center. He has been in several of the City of Richardson magazines for best doctor in the area. His number is ###-###-####. You can tell him who recommended you and he will know exactly who i am.

I still nurse our 16 mo old son....he doesn't nurse full time but you know what, my pediatrician told me that it calms him, relaxes him, etc. and he's MY BABY so do what I need to do :) I use Dr. Menchaca at Pediatric Healthcare Association PA
###-###-#### - 3701 Eldorado Pkwy Ste A, McKinney, TX 75070. They are right next to Primrose at the corner of Highlands and Eldorado Parkway and I can't say enough great things about her. I actually had it in MY mind that I should stop around 15 mo but when I told her that at his check up and she asked why, I really didn't have an answer. That was when she gave me reasons why he still wanted to nurse - now she did say that when he can ask, in a full sentence, for 'it', then maybe I should reconsider ;)
