Seeking Pediatrician Open to Alternative Vaccination Schedules

I wanted to see if there were any Moms who know of pediatricians that are open to alternative vaccination schedules. I take my son to Mesa Pediatrics, along with a Naturopathic physician. However, our insurance does not cover the Naturopathic physician, so we need to see a "traditional" pediatrician from time to time.

I have recently been questioning vaccinations and if they are right for my son, who has currently has allergy issues. I have postponed his 1 year vaccinations, but I feel like I will be pressured by my current pediatrician to complete the vaccinations by our next visit. I would like to find a pediatrician who is open to parents choosing to delay vaccinations, or not give certain ones altogether. I also would like to find a pediatrician who is open to natural healing techniques. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I thought I would update everyone on what has happened, so hopefully this will help other Moms. I started taking my son to Dr. Ruth Tan Lim, which was suggested to me, in October. She has truly changed our lives and I am so glad we have found her! Not only is she open to alternative vaccination schedules, she is helping my son overcome his food sensitivities and chronic ear/sinus infections. Since going to her, his health has improved exponentially along with his development. My son has blossomed into a really happy and healthy looking little boy.

I do alternative vaccination and I go to Step by Step Ped. in Ahwatukee. Although they recommend their own schedule they have never said anything about the one I set up for my kids. My 6 yr.old has only had dtp & mmr and same with my 2 1/2 yr. old. FYI

Hi H.,

I'm not big on vaccinations either, especially at such a young age. Both of my children still have not had their vaccinations and they are very healthy. One will be 6 in Sept. and the other is 4.

The pediatrician that I take my kids to is Dobson Pediatric Center / Pediatric & Adolescent Medicine / Pediatric Hematology-Oncology M.D. Dr. Ruth Tan Lim, M.D. Besides traditional medicine, she does natural. She also sees adults after hours. She does know her stuff and works with you regarding the vaccinations. Her # is ###-###-####
Address: 2058 S. Dobson Rd., #6, Mesa, AZ 85202 (Dobson & Baseline).

Here are a couple of great books for you:

"Vaccinations: A Thoughtful Parent's Guide" by Aviva Romm
"The Vaccine Book" by Robert Sears

We are non-vaccinating at the moment and have had great results - our child is healthier than most and has waaayyy fewer illnesses than vaccinated kids at our church. We are focussing on diet and breastfeeding.

Japan has one of the lowest infant mortality - and they don't start vaccines till 1 year of age.

I would advise doing your research, making a decision, and sticking to it. Most peds will not agree with a delayed- or non-vaccinating strategy. The best thing to do is just to call their office and ask point blank if they accept non-vaccinating patients. That will save you a lot of time in interviews.

Good job for thinking it through!

Blessings!

You are the parent, not them. If you are choosing to wait they cannot force you. Stand firm.
Are you happy with them otherwise?
If not, I'd keep looking, but if you like them in general, just be the mom.
Funnoy how society makes us feel like we are at their mercy. They work for US, not the other way around.
Be educated & stand your ground.

This is your child, your choice and your business, don't let anyone tell you anything different.

Have you read the books by A. Romm and Stephanie Cave? They are great to make your own informed decisions. I went along with the ped. schedule for my 6 year old, but questioned everything for my 2 1/2 year old once we got thru his 6 mo. shots and I realized a pattern of colds leading to antibiotics after ped. vaccine visits. I read those 2 books, did internet research, and came up with my own plan, mostly following Cave's recommendations. He has never had a cold again following his vaccines. I only get one at a time and space them out. He is now up to date except for I'm still questioning the MMR. My ped. office always questions me on each visit, but I am firm with my plan and they now know to just do their job and remind me what is due and I respond with the next known schedule of my own and they let it go. I asked my chiropractor if he vaccinated his 2 girls and he said he only got them the initial doses and none of the boosters - that the initial vaccine protects up to 75% and then the boosters only increase the immunity 5% or so each time. I didn't know any of that. I don't have a ped. recommendation for you, but maybe this info. will help you anyway.

hi H.,I really understnad how you feel about vaccinations,I'm same.I didn't want to do any vaccintion to my daughter. But we did because we were traveling in different countries. We started to do vaccinations after our daughter turned 6 months. I didn't want her to have all vaccination right away after her birth. You know it's your chose to do it or not. I didn't really liked any pediatricians. It took us almost a year and a half to find one I would like. And you know,I loved her right away. Because she was always listening to me and I told her about natural things I do when my daughter gets sick, she new a lot of natural things and she agreed with me,she completely understood me, she never pushed any antibiotics if I thought it's not necessary. She was saying if natural herbs won't work you can give me call or get an antibiotics. I had one doctor who told me never come back because I wouldn't do any vaccinations. There was no respect. I think really good pediatrician has to respect the parents and their wishes.
any way,you can try this one: Judith Barnes Clark,M.D., F.A.A.P.

It's Building Blocks Pediatrics.
We liked her,see if you do.

I guess I don't understand why people are afraid to have their children receive their vaccinations?
I didn't have a problem getting my daughter her shots. We all got them when we were growing and I think we all turned out just fine with no problems.
I don't want to take a chances that my child could get sick or die from not getting her shots.
If you want to take that chance then I guess that is up to you.

Hello, A. here I live in Mesa have a 3 .5 yr old boy and a 9.5 month baby girl. I had a midwife and both kids were Born at Home. so I also have a strong belief in taking things slower, holisitc and alternative, but I do immunize also, My midwife recommened to me Dr Scott Jensen in QC. I really like him alot Both my kids see him. I also only give 1 or 2 shots at a time and I wait a very long time in between, I dont belive in shoving so may shots at once, it disrupts the babies health and your sanity. Dr Jensen is very amicable.Ph ####-###-####
