Seeking Nice Real Christmas Trees

We are new to the St. Charles area and would like to buy a real Christmas tree this year. We have always had an artificial one, but the one we have just doesn't look good in our new house. I don't want to buy one that is all bundled because then you can't see it. I'm not sure if we need to go to a tree farm. We would like about a 9 foot tree. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

What can I do next?

HiKris Ann,

We go every year to the Tammen Treeberry Farm in Wilmington. You can pick out and cut down any tree you wish for one price. I have never had a more beautiful/perfect tree than theirs. And, the kids love to go. You can bring the entire family including the dog, some hot chocolate and it's a perfect tradition.

Marmion is a good tradition to start. Go together as a family find your tree. Go home put on the crockpot with homemade hot chocolate and decorate.

Marmion Academy!! They grow hundreds on their property and I believe you might be able to pick out and cut your own. We are going to do it this year and the family is very excited! It is on Butterfield Rd behind the new Walmart & Sonic off of Kirk Rd (Farnsworth). Have Fun!

We have gone to Cosley Farm in Wheaton on Gary Ave. They have a variety of trees of all sizes and kinds. It's not too crowded and part of the cost of your tree goes towards supporting them. When you choose your tree, there is someone there to make a fresh cut on the bottom of the trunk. Once you pay, there are carts to transport them to your car and rope to tie it down. There are lights around the park to go around and look at, and free hot cider/hot chocolate. At least they did last time we went. The last 2 years we were out of town for Christmas.

We have gone to B & L Landscaping ( a block south of 64 on 13th Ave on the east side of town). They will have someone go around with you and pull out the trees and spin them for you so that you can see all sides. They will also cut the trunk for you and load it on your car for you. They also have a delivery/set up service for you. They had/have an awesome tree stand and you drill a hole in the bottom of the tree and it fits right over the stand. This was the best buy I have ever made! It's so easy to put up and there are no worries about the tree falling. I'm sure we've paid more for our trees over the years . . . .but the quality can't be beat! One year we bought a "cheaper" tree from Lowes and I was soooo disappointed. Good luck! I've always had a real tree and it's such a great tradition.

Cosley Zoo in Wheaton is a great choice. They have a wide variety of trees. The trees are not bundled. The proceeds of the sales go to the zoo which doesn't charge admision.

Kris-
In Aurora there is an all-boys school called Marmion Academy. It is on Raddant Road off of Butterfield Road. They always have real trees for sale that are reasonably priced. Good Luck
