Video Help, please. My 7 year old daughter loves to watch my younger kids (2 & 4) programs, (barney to be precise). She really enjoys him but on the flip side she likes to watch teen age shows as well. I do not think she is at the lever where she should be watching those shows. Are there any movie or shows that you can recommend I buy for her, that isn�t Purple, not that there is anything wrong with him, he teaches good morals, manners, friendship, etc. However, something a little different more her age range.

HOW ABOUT VENTURING TO YOUR LOCAL LIBRARY AND ENLIST HELP FROM THE LIBRAIAN. THAT WAY SHE CAN TRY DIFFERENT MOVIES AND FIND OUT WHAT SHE LIKES BEFORE YOU BY SOMETHING SHE MIGHT NOT CARE FOR.
"The labrynth" with Jennifer O'Connelly and the "Last Unicorn"(animated) may appeal to both of them..

My niece is 7 and she watches movies like Black Beauty and the like. She loves horses so those are great movies for her. My thought is that for the younger kids, those would still be ok for them to see too.

My girls loved High School Musical and it was a sweet story with a good message about being true to yourself and accepting people for who they are and not stereotyping them. Disney channel has some great movies as a whole. The Even Stevens family movie was a good one too. They also loved the 101 & 102 dalmations movies, the ones with real people, not the cartoons.
Lizzie mcguire shows are great!! sweet, cornie and a little "older" for her...

The American Girl movies are great.They have books to match. Black beauty is my Daughters favorite.Most of the Disney movies are great.The school can give you a good list.At your local library they have them really reasonable to rent. then if you like them you can purchase them. That way there is no money wasted.On tv there is a show animal planet that all of your children will love. Nemo ,toy stort 1 and 2 Doctor Doolittle is really cool.I sure hopes this help.Good luck

Basically anything Disney. The younger will like it too. I have three boys 4,5 and 12...they never agree on anything accept DISNEY movies.
maybe Mary-Kate and Ashley movies? Especially the ones from when they were younger, you can rent them at the library.
E., our kids STILL love Veggie Tales (fun and funny) as well as any of the Beatrix Potter videos which are really well made and teach some good character lessons.
At around 7-8 they started liking longer videos like Mary Poppins and Babe and even Sound of Music (which is REALLY long) and the King and I. We've stayed completely away from the teen sitscoms etc. We've recently gotten $1 DVDs from Target and the Dollar store of Andy Griffith reruns and the Waltons.

Vegy Tales you can get them at Walmart.
They are awesome. The little one can watch them also. They teach all sorts of morals and they also teach the basic bible stories without being overly religious. I am sure the kids would love them. My children have watched them since they were little and still enjoy them.
Veggie Tales are the best! Also, you may want to check out 3-2-1 Penguins. Both are good for teaching how to handle some moral dilema or lesson and they even meet the standards of my 12 year old...they are funny. I even watch them - I'm in my 40's. You do not have to worry about offensive or questionable material with these. Perfect for all of your children.

you can't go wrong with the classics "Sound of Music", "Mary Poppins", etc! And I thought the Princess Diaries were great - your daughter may be to young yet for them.

Another series that is EXCELLENT for all of your children at the same time is Signing Time. It teaches both the hearing and hard of hearing American Sign Language. The woman who created the series does the sign, and tells you something to remember it. Then, they show kids of all ages doing the signs. The creator is also a musician, and she has created songs that incorporate the vocabulary words. It is fun, fun, fun. My 2 year old and 5 year old LOOOOVE these videos. I have friends with kids going into 5th grade, and those kids love the videos too, and beg their moms to get them the series. The signs start off fairly simple, but then the videos get more advanced with signs for school, food/eating, outdoor, neighborhood, vocabulary. I recommend the Signing Time series more than any other videos. Not only can it help your kids communicate, it has helped my daughter with spelling (she sounds out words as she fingerspells them), my 2 year old with communication as she has a speech delay, and it is a fantastic and practical 2nd language.
You can learn more about Signing Time at www.signingtime.com. You can also see some episodes on Pbs -- I think on Sundays at 6:30 a.m. or some horrible hour.
High School Musical is great, Read it and Weep, Beethoven, Shark boy and Lava girl, Sky High. I have 3 girls 12, 7, 4 and they all agree that these movies are good.
The abosolute best advice is for your 7 yr old and upcoming kids to view the videos produced by Feature Films for Families out of Murray, UT 1-800-FAMILY-TV. I had purchased these films for my kids for years. My daughter especially liked the "Sugar Creek Gang" adventures. some of the local libraries carry a few of them. But you can purchase like 2 or 4 movies a month directly from the company. great to have as your other kids get older and can watch. My husband and I enjoyed them as well. Good morals, no sex, violence, bad language etc... Hope you enjoy!
