I have a 6 mth old she has just started waking up crying in an inconsolable way(usually pacifier would suffice) to the point where my husband and I are going into her room like 10 times! Has anyone seen this with your own? If so what was it and how did you get past it!

Thanks
Mother of 6 month and 2 1/2(whom never had these night waking issues)

What can I do next?

Hylands Teething Tablets....

At Walmart they are found in the pharmacy...
At Kroger they are found in the "organics" area.

Check out Dr. Brazelton's book on sleep. It's much kinder than the Ferber method and it's short!

I would take her to the Dr. and make sure she does not have an ear infection. The waking up in the night is usually my daughter's only symptom. And most often I did not even notice a cold.

Have you had her ears checked? Since she doesn't have other symptoms, she probably doesn't have an ear infection, but could have fluid behind the ear drum that is painful.

Also, many babies do go through sleep regressions...often associated with growth spurts or teething.

Mine did that when she was teething. Nursing worked.

My first thought was ear infection, also. My first was almost 18 mos before he ever had one so I didn't know what to look for or WHY he was suddenly waking up every night. Finally he put his head down at lunch and popped back up in tears and I realized- duh!- that maybe the pressure in his ears is bad. I took him to the dr where I was told "this is the WORST ear infection I have ever seen". (Not my regular doctor and -yes- I felt about 2 inches tall...)But he also did not have any other symptons until about 4 or 5 days into this night waking... good luck, whatever it is...

Once you've ruled out the baby isn't sick, it may just be that she needs to eat more solids to help her through the night. When we put our son down for the night at 6 months old, we always fed him a bowl of rice cereal with his favorite veggie or fruit, it did wonders for his sleep.

You'll get tons of advice here, but also check for Thrush (she might be eating fine so might not be an issue). I thought of that since she won't take a pacifier. But I do know if there is an infection or teething, that teeth and ears hurt worse when you lay down. Something is bothering her. It doesn't sound like the normal manipulation thing.

This is how we figured out our first child had her first ear infection. No fever, no other signs other than waking up so often. She was about 7 months old.

It really depends on why she's waking up. If she's teething, motrin is pretty much the only pain medicine that really works. Tylenol does little or nothing with my son. You can use orajel, or teething tablets (again, didn't work with my son, but all kids are different)

My son woke up around that age, too, at night, but I was nursing him so I would just feed him until he fell back asleep.

You can get infants Motrin that's dye-free and flavored, and that will help her to go back to sleep after a little bit. Also, those teething toys they make that can go in the refrigerator or freezer might help too.

I hope you get some relief soon!

Sounds like she has gas. You can buy gas drops at H-E-B.

They worked well on our son. We started using gas drops on our son as early as 2 months.

Good Luck. I know, this can be frustrating.

If you are bottle feeding, consider changing formula to see if that helps. If you are nursing, start by eliminating dairy. Your baby may be having a negative reaction to a food source in her diet. Make sure your baby has been burped sufficiently before you put her down.

You know both of my girls at some point went through weird sleep stuff. I'm probably more laid back than some, but for goodness sakes she is only 6 month old not 6 years old. Nothing is a given when they are so young.

My son did the same thing for a while when he was about that age. We tried everything and the only thing we found that worked was brushing his teeth. Strange enough! We got a toothbrush and lightly brushed his gums and he would fall asleep chewing on the toothbrush and that was it. It worked! Good luck!
