Wondering if anyone knew of good montessori programs in Minneapolis. Even though our daughter is only 8 months now we want to be sure to have enough time to do our research and find a program that will offer the type of environment we are looking for. From what I hear lots of good places have wait lists so I want to be sure to get in at the school of our choice.

Seward Montessori is the best school ever! My daughter has been going there since Children's House (Kindergarten) and is now in 5th Grade and doing great.
I highly recommend Child Garden Montessori, located at St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral on Loring Park, and also 2 blocks away at the Unitarian church behind the Walker Art Center.
I think there is a Montessori school in the Seward neighborhood, although I don't know much about it. I've heard that it's pretty good.
I have many friends whose kids go to Montessori and have heard great things about: MiniApple Montessori in Dinky Town, MacDonald Montessori in St. Paul and Ramalynn Montessori in Bloomington. If you are looking to start your daughter in a toddler program you will definetely need to get on it quickly. If you are waiting until 33 months or so, then you don't have to rush at all - they usually enroll around January for the upcoming year.

My brothers girlfriend's children go to the Seward Montessori. I know a couple other friends that go there also. I have heard wonderful things about the school. The parents are supportive and also volunteer which is important for a schools success. Be careful when choosing a Montessori because they have changed a lot in the last few years. Some don't follow the philosophies. Good luck!
I was a Montessori teacher at Crossroads Elementary (St.Paul public) for many years. If I could choose any school for my children, it would be Lake Country in Minneapolis. Amazing environment, outstanding teachers, and reaaly unique parent community. It is a private school however, with private school tuition prices! Still, definately worth a look! Seward, from what I've heard, no longer uses a lot of the Montessori materials and curriculum. I think Crossroads is one of the best public (free) Montessoris in the area, but is located in Frogtown.
There is a Montessori school around 38th and Pleasant in Minneapolis, Lake Country Montessori, however, they only take children starting at the age of 3. We looked for a Montessori-based daycare that had an infant program for our son who started daycare at 13 months, but couldn't find one that was in a convenient location (we live in So. Mpls, in the Lyndale neighborhood, and both work in downtown Mpls).
Try Seward Montessori. I have a friend who's daughter attends there for Kindergarten and is very happy. I have heard that it is tough to get into the program, so probably better to check into it and get on a waiting list.
