P.W.
I have this diagnosis with monitoring every six months. No plans to remove as long as they do not grow or cause problems.
I'm scheduled to have a multi noduled thyroid goiter on Nov. 11th and wanted to know what to expect as far as recovery time. I have a 7 yr old to take care of a father in hospice due to cancer.
Just wanted to say thanks to veryone who responded about having the thyroid removed. My doctor called the day before surgery to say he had to be out of town and that we needed to reschedule. It will be Dec. the 2nd.I'm trying not to worry but I can feel it when I swallow and my voice is getting hoarser. Will send another email after I have had my surgery.
thanks,
Kathy

i recover those patients. i in recovery. they do great. gone the next day. have to sleep one night. who knows i may take care of you. u will do great. very little pain.
I had this procedure last year. Twice!!! Email me and I will tell you all you could ever ask to know. It is not that bad. I was diagnosed with multinodular goiter in August of 2007. I had the right half of my thyroid removed Labor Day weekend and was back at work on Tuesday (even though they told me to take a week). I had my surgery on Friday and went home Saturday morning. I didn't feel "bad" I wasn't in a lot of pain, just really wanted to sleep. I am sure that is because of the anethesia. I had the second half removed in October of 2007. Same scenario. I went in of Friday came home saturday. I slept most of the day saturday and then felt better by sunday. I took monday off from work, and went in tuesday. Good luck, and like I said email me if you have any questions at all!!!
Kathy,
Good luck with your surgery. I haven't had it, but will probably have to in the future. I have had 4 fine needle biopsies to check my nodules, and I hate that. But I was informed recently by my endocrinologist that the longer the nodules stay, they typically become cancerous.... so my husband and I are going to wait just to see if we can conceive our first child, before I do the surgery.
I will pray for you and your family, I know all too well of having a loved one in hospice care. I lost my older brother 3 years ago and it was tough. The hospice nurses were great. Good luck with everything!
Godspeed!

Kathy,
I know nothing about this type surgery but pray for a quick recovery for you and that you will have the strength-- both emotionally and physically-- to press on through these difficult days with your dad. God bless!
