Check out www.momsclub.org. They have groups in many different areas and will set you up in a weekly playgroup if you want and also do weekly activities, Mom's Night out once a month and a lot more. Check it out to see if there is a chapter in your area. I moved here 4 years ago and made most of my friends through the mom's club!
You should check out www.meetup.com. You can search for moms groups and see which would be the best for you depending on where you live, your interests, etc. I belong to a group through meetup called the East Valley Hip Mamas and LOVE it. Hope you find what you're looking for!
If your playgroup doesn't pan out, I recommend joining MOMS Club. Check out www.momsclub.org to find your local chapter. They have activities with the kids during the day, playgroups, and Mom's Night Out once a month, plus it's just a good support and network, and it's super cheap to join (my chapter is $23/yr). I joined it when my husband starting traveling and I really enjoy it. I joined for me but my kids love the fun activities and socializing with other kids. I know so much more about things to do with kids locally now.
