Hi S., first I would like to say--welcome to the area! I know you won't be here for another month but I wanted to say that :) I'm part of a fabulous moms group that hosts events in Plano, Allen, Frisco, and McKinney (all the surrounding town from Plano) called Daisies and Dragonflies. If you go to meetup.com, type in the name and Margaret is the organizer. This is a large group and there are events almost everyday. In fact, there are two or three sometimes! I would join if you like what you see and that way you could view the September calander and sign up for events once you are in the area. Meeting new moms is key. I have a 22 month old daughter and moved here with my hubby last May. It took me a while to connect but once I found this group, I made friends right away. Good luck with the move and I hope to see you in the future!

A couple other great ways to meet moms are www.momsclub.org, www.dfwareamoms.com, and the local early childhood PTA. When you go to the Mom's Club website, you can find the group near you via your zipcode. There are probably several ECPTA groups depending on your location in Plano. Some great free magazines to pick up are Dallas Child (www.dallaschild.com)and North Texas Kids (www.northtexaskids.com). They are in stores, doctor's offices, etc that are kid oriented. These magazines are full of information about kid's activities and events.

I'm adding a couple more ideas here if you'd like to get together with other Christian moms: http://www.chaseoaks.org/get-connected/adults/women/moms-... , and www.mops.org.

Even more websites to try www.newcomerfriends.org (for new Plano residents), moms.meetup.com/994/ (Collin County Moms Meetup group), and www.momsoutloud.com (activties).

Here's a "pre-arrival" welcome to the area. I grew up just outside of Dayton, Ohio.....but have been here in the D/FW area for 25 years now.

You will find that there are so many things to do that you can get overwhelmed. When I moved here with a 5 month old baby, I requested information from each of the Chambers of Commerce in each surrounding town.....then I played tourist and visited many of the sites (historic locations, museums, parks, etc.). Consequently, I have been to many places and have a familiarity with the area that many natives do not have.

Enjoy......there is much to do that is at no charge.

I second the whole joining a Mommies group idea. I am a member of Lewisville Proud Mamas, and we have several members in the Plano area. Just go to meetup.com to search for it. We all have babies born in 2007 so your 2 year old would fit right in. Most of us also have other children (both younger and older), and we have TONS of activites (at least 2-3 a week or more). I have met some great moms and made some lifelong friendships. Hope to see you join. Welcome to Texas...pack your shorts and tank tops cause it's hot :-)!
