we are due to have baby # 2 in dec. my children are going to be 5 years apart. my question is i've kept all the pacis and bottles with nipples. i was wondering should I throw out all the nipples and paci's and get new ones or santize them? my son never took a paci only his thumb which he still has this habit.

What can I do next?

I say error on the side of caution and get new nipples/pacifiers. Even if they are unopened they are old and I would worry about cracking, etc.

I would say unless they've been recalled for one reason or another I would just wash them up and use them again. The only other thing I can think of is that most bottles have gone to BPA free now and 5 years ago I don't believe that was the case so you might want to get new bottles.

Good luck,
K.

Get all new stuff for the baby.
The bottles themselves might be okay, but the nipples and paci's....get new ones! I wouldn't even use 5 year old bottles, but that's just me.

I would thorw it all out, for sure. You can buy really inexpensive bottles, nipples and nuks brand new, so it really isn't worth the risk. Especially now that they make most baby plasitcs BPA free, which is enough reason alone to throw it all and start over. Good luck with the new bundle of joy!

After 5 years the nipples and pacifiers have broken down no doubt. For the little money it would cost to replace them there is no reason not to and no reason to take a chance that they might break, crack, etc while a newborn is using them.

And give their age the bottles will not be BPA free. If I were to be a bottle mom then I would certainly *not* want my child exposed to any more chemicals than necessary.

Check them for signs of rot (holes, gummy, ect). If they are okay, boil them and use them. No sense in spending extra money for something you already have!

If BPA is a concern for you (you really should read up on it, to decide!), throw them out. They won't be BPA free.

throw them away, with out a doubt! the whole bpa thing (which just came up about 2 years ago when my twin boys were infants, of course!) means that nothing older than a year is safe.
congrats on the new baby :)

New baby, new stuff!! The rubber might be worn, and you never know if it will break off. Congratulations!!!! Good luck!

I would throw out all the nipples and pacifiers. The rubber breaks down over time, so better to be safe than sorry.

I would say as long as the nipples are in good shape it should be OK. I might get new paci's unless they are new and in the package still. You were smart to save that stuff. Mine are 8 years apart and all I had left was a highchair and a playpen.

It is safer to throw them out and get new ones. The rubber deteriotes over age even if never used.
