I would suggest going to the library and checking out the book "The Proper Care and Feeding of Marriage". It comes with such practical advice. It definitely helped my marriage.
I have been married for 11 1/2 years. Our marriage has become so-so. There isn't much of spark left. We rarely talk about anything important. Just go through the motions of our day. We are having some behavior issues with our middle son. I don't feel like my husband is really involved. He is a great provider and is really appreciated at work. At home, he does just enough to get by and suggests I should be lucky that he helps unlike other husbands. I work full time too. Then I take care of everything else. I have tried many times to tell him how I feel. Things improve for a little while and then back to the same old pattern. I want us to get some marriage counseling. Anyone know of a good marriage counselor in the Johnson County area.

Have you said to your husband THE exact words you put in this request? A good way for open communication is to start with, "I feel like....when this....then that" Do NOT make ANY "YOU" statements when speaking, this implies blame and a person will get defensive.
Maybe a good way to start a conversation would be to READ this (that you wrote) to him, word for word. Especially the parts where you appreciate what he does for you and the family.
It feels wierd when you first start to converse this way, but with practice you will get used to it. Good luck and God Bless :)

She is a licensed clinical social worker. I haven't seen her myself, but have several friends who have and are really happy with her. Good luck!

He has been very helpful all through my marriage. Very level headed person and not judgmental. He has really helped me get my husband back on track when hubby starts doing wacky things.

Dr. Laurie Schwarz (off of 75th and Stateline), would be a good resource. You also might check out JC Mental Health Center. If you are looking into therapy for your son, you can email me privately (I am a Child and Family Therapist). I do not specialize in Couples, hence the referrals.
I highly recommend Grant and Emma Wood, who are marriage and family therapists. They often work as a team with couples. Their website is http://www.resonateclinic.com/.
Best of luck to you.
