Hi C.,
Well first of all let me congratulate you for taking care of yourself and your children! I too was married for over 20 years, (four children at the time 19, 17, 13, & 8.) It is now four years later. I am doing great, even though it was a rocky two year ride.
With out giving legal advice, the courts do want to see that you are working towards something. I myself returned to school full time and held down a part-time job. Once child support and maintenance (alimony) was determined, I probably could have quit, but I stayed on for a while longer (too long!)
With all of your experience, decide what you want to do and look in that field. If you only need a part time job; a day-care or any recreation centers need teachers of any subject. Denver has a private International School, (you can look it up on the internet.) You may need a Colorado's Teacher Certification, (which can be a hassle.) Many districts (especially, Denver is hiring without Certification, which will eventually be acquired.)
Best regards,
P.
