Seeking Information on Hematoma's in Pregnancy

Sorry, this is the first time that I've posted anything. I went to my doctors office for an 8 week ultrasound due to previous miscarriages. Baby's heart is good and growth is right on time, but right above the fetal sac is a hematoma or hemmorhage. Its supposedly a moderate sized one and I've been put on restrictions of no lifting, no bending over a lot, rest with legs propped up as much as I can, and no sex. I was just wondering if other mothers have had this certain complication and was wondering about outcomes. They think it will resolve, but my doctor is very overprotective and really hasn't explained alot.

What can I do next?

My sister had one and had very heavy bleeding for the first trimester that included clotting, very scary! But she ended up being fine and her son is now 18 months old and very happy and healthy.

I bled up to my 5th month! Very scary. My daughter is almost 5!!! Keep positive thoughts, and follow your doc's advice! Take it easy! You'll have plenty of heavy lifting and activity after your baby gets here!! I'll be thinking of you!

Hi R.,

This sounds similar to what my friend had w/ her 3rd preg 4yrs ago. She had a clot, I believe between her placenta and uterine wall, and bled around 12wks. Very scary for her, but a heartbeat was always found...and her boy will be 4 this Nov.

I've had 3 miscarriages in between my first daughter, and my twins. I pray for your rest and peace, and a healthy baby!

Hello R.,

Although I will be of no help since I have not heard of this, nor experienced it, I just wanted you to know that you are in my thoughts. I'm sure your doc IS being extra-cautious and it probably isn't that serious (or he would have told you) but I am sure it is very scary. Try to relax and enjoy your husband taking care of things for you. Keep us informed of your progress.

I have a friend currently pregnant (due January) with the same issue. She also had a fair amount of miscarriages before this pregnancy stuck.
Her Dr. keeps telling her it will clear on its own - she asks "what if it doesn't" and they say it should and that is all.

The baby has been growing healthy and strong through the pregnancy so that is good. She has been taking iron supplements to help with the blood loss, to keep her counts up.
Sorry I couldn't be more help to you!
Good luck I will also keep you in my thoughts.

my best friend who is ready to deliver any day now, was diagnosed with the same thing at the beginning of her pregnancy. hers waspositioned on the sac directly above the baby's head & was the size of the baby's head. her doctors put her on bedrest, no lifting/sex/bending over/straining(going #2), anything that put stress abdomin was off limits. as the baby grew the hemotoma got smaller. now it's the size of a eraser on a pencil. good luck & try to stay positive. God be with you.

Hi R.,
I went through the same thing with my third baby. Early on in the pregnancy I began to bleed, not a lot but it still scared me. When they did an ultra-sound they saw a hematoma/hemmorhage, but did not seem worried. For me I was a wreck because with my two other children I did not bleed or have any major issues. They told me to take it easy and refrain from heavy lifting and if I began to bleed again that I should go to the ER. Thankfully, after that I had no other bleeding and carried him to term. The doctor said that it is fairly common. All of my sisters and Mom had the same issues with all of thier babies, but they gave birth to healthy babies. I know it is easier said than done but try not to worry yourself too much. Just take it easy and let your husband take over more, it sounds like he is willing to help. I wish you all the luck!

I had a hematoma during my second pregnancy. My doc restricted my lifting and that was about it. It did cause me serious cramping throught out my pregnancy, other than that I was pretty normal. Sorry its not much help good luck!!
