There is an awesome playground right next to the Met. That is if they haven't torn it down and turned it into a wussy playground like all the others.
We are looking for playgrounds in the greater NYC area that we should take our daughter (1 year) to before the season closes (hard to believe that's coming in the next few months). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

We live in Brooklyn and our favorite playground is the one in the DUMBO neighborhood- if youre taking the subway, you can take the F train to York Street and walk downhill till you reach the park which is beautiful, its right on the water. My son (2) likes to throw rocks in the River on the little beach and run around in the playground which has a huge pirate ship playstructure and fabulous sprinklers and a little stream, and a sandbox. Its the best playground I've been to in NYC so far! Good luck and have fun!
There is a great playground for younger kids in Central Park. It is right near the North West corner (110th street and Central Park West). (No restrooms) There is a nice coffee shop on 110th just west of the park, other side of the Circle.

What do you mean by the greater NYC area? Queens? Brooklyn?
I can't help you re: NJ/LI playgrounds.
Regardless, you should just come to NYC ... start with Central Park ... look up the Botanical Gardens within each borough (Brooklyn Botanical Garden, Queens Botanical Garden and there are parks/walking spaces within each Garden.)
You are right the season is ending so just get out there!
