My family and I are planning to go to Disney World in late September and I was wondering if anyone had some good advice about it. We would like to stay in the Disney complex. I was also looking at the Dinning option. Is is worth the $40 a person a night or would it be cheaper to just buy our own food? Did anyone stay at a great hotel that they really liked?

E.,

You are going at the right time - not just because it won't be as hot or as crowded, but between 8/16 and 10/3 or so - Disney is offering their basic dining plan FREE with a 5 night stay. Also, airfare if you are flying has been under $200 too.

You can book directly through Disney - all they need is a deposit of $200 REFUNDABLE on a credit card. If you pick up travel insurance and/or airfare now that is nonrefundable.

The offer is available thru mid-June but they only have a set number of rooms available with the deal.

As for where to stay depends on budget, location, etc... The budget are cheapest & smallest, the moderate rooms are 25% larger and come with minifridges (about $15/day otherwise if available at budget) and the Coronado has 2 Queen beds - beware budget & the other moderates are double beds and have long walks to catch buses on site... As for which Deluxe really a matter of taste/location. The Wilderness is supposed to be nice, but for me the theme holds no appeal since I feel like most of our vacations are up at the Wilderness in the Dells and I want to go where it is warm ;-). The Polynesian & Contemporary are convenient but older.

I'm going too in late September. Email me if you want to chat more.

Hi E.,

We went to Disney last year and stayed at the Port Orleans in Disney. I felt for a first visit it was nice to stay on the resort, it is great to have the buses that take you everywhere. We did the dining option ( I have 7yr old twins, and an 11yr old), and I felt that getting breakfast, lunch, dinner and a snack was more food then we actually needed. I personally would would just do our own food next time.
Have a great time!

We stayed at the Polynesian Resort and it was fabulous!!! They have 2 different pools and family style dining at Ohana's along with a Character Breakfast with Lilo and Stitch, Mickey, Donald and Pluto. We did the Disney Dining plan and felt that it really did save us money. We even dined at the Grand Floridian which is a bit more upscale. The Polynesian is also connected to the Monorail which takes you to the Disney Parks Otherwise I think they do have bus service from the other resorts. We took my daughter when she was 2 and plan on going again in December (she is 4 now). Please feel free to contact me if you have any more questions
