Seeking Information About Blood Clots

I don't know much about blood clots but I do know the most amazing high risk OB/GYN. Dr. Jeff Livingston - he is a saint! He is soft spoken and kind, VERY well respected in his field. Everyone in his (many) offices say he is the best. We had a loss this past January and he was so kind to us. I am pregnant again, and after many tests (in which he preformed) we are expecting a healthy baby in January. He treated us as if we were his only patient, taking time to explain everything.

I am sorry for your frustration, I know virtually nothing about blood clots but understand your pain. As a type 1 diabetic pregnancy is risky for me, but mostly for my baby as my actions as far as blood glucose control can have direct and serious impacts on the baby and after two successful pregnancies some people have made me feel "selfish" for wanting another one since I was so "lucky" to have had the other two, a boy and a girl. I applaud your efforts to research this and find out whether or not it is wise to try again - I hope for you that the results are positive. My OB/GYN is excellent - I don't know that he is classified as "high risk" but he handled both my pregnancies with extra care due to the diabetes and I was able to avoid c-sections and deliver two very healthy babies. I too have a clotting disorder... not Factor V, but another similar to it. They only discovered it after the birth of my twins in February. Because of it, I have to be very careful if I get pregnant again and can no longer take birth control pills, etc.

If you are in the Ann Arbor, MI area, I highly recommend any of the Drs. at U of M Taubman clinic. Drs. VanDeVen, Mozurkewich, or Chames were Maternal-Fetal specialists I dealt with throughout my pregnancy and were very competent and professional.

Dr. Steven Weight or Dr. Paula Hendryx at MetroHealth are excellent OB/GYN. Metro is well known for high risk pregnancies. Can't babies just cause havoc to our bodies? I have a health and wellness business and have learned of a blood test that is one of the most tremendous sources for preventative (and curative) treatment I have found. Often undiagnosed challenges are found and turned around. If I had your issue, I would have this test done. You'll be amazed at what you'll learn. If this sounds like something you want to know more about, please let me know.

I have a rare blood disorder also called Essential Throbocytemia and go to Dr. Sabir, oncologist,###-###-#### he is great and said I could get pregnanct with my 4th after being diagnosed. He gives minimal meds and is very willing to work openly with the ob.

As for high risk ob. I never became officially high risk but I go to Dr. Marback ###-###-#### and we consulted very frequently during my 3rd pregancy with her high risk ob, I think his name is Dr. Bleseed but not for sure. But I am sure if you call Dr. Marback they would know. And he was great!!!

I don't know anything about your condition but here is another high risk ob/gyn. Dr. Ross Marchetta (OB & GYN of the Reserve). ###-###-#### He works out of Akron General and I think Akron City as well. He may have other hospitas he is affiliated with. He has offices in Bath, OH and Green, OH. The number I gave you is for his Bath office. He is wonderful!

Here are some good high-risk obgyn's Dr. Horlacher, Dr. Imbody, or Dr. guy. They are all different practices. They work out of MVH. I think your condition is fairly common, they usually pick up on it when a woman has a lot of miscairages.

Dr. Susan Hicks with Grand Rapids OBGYN is excellent. All the doctors in that office are great and work together well. I know that many specializes in different problems.

The office of Beachwood Family Health Clinic on Cedar Road, which is part of Cleveland Clinic has a great high risk OB/GYN team. My Dr. is Barry Peskin, but there is also his twin brother Julian, and also Dr. Kiwi who are all wonderful and very reputable.

M.--I am not sure where Maineville Oh is but Dr. George Van buren of University Hospitals is the best High Risk OB. He is part of McDonald's Women's Hospital which is part of University Hospital System in Cleveland, Oh. I have four children--he delivered them all--three premature--the fourth had other complications. I don't know anything about your condition but I guarantee you he will! I live near Akron and drove almost an hour for my fourth pregancy to have him has my doctor I trust him that much! (He used to practice in Akron).

Did / do you have vein or artery clots? I experienced a right sub-clavian vein clot 2 years ago. It had nothing to do with pregnancy. In fact, no one honestly knows what caused it. Probably a nasty combo of a few things: being a female over 40, eating a low-meat and high veg / vitamin K diet, Working out doing over head reps with free weights, (not like I've never done that before) and being on The Pill...(Lo Estrin). I was in B-North for 5 days in June of 2003. They did a vein-o-gram of my arm and collar bone area and injected a drug called Redavase in through a stent for a day. It works sort of like Drain-o. They also said I had Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, where the passage way in my collarbone area is narrow, and blood flow could get compromised if I did certain over head movements a lot. They said after the proceedure I was clot free, but I still had to stay on Coumadin / Warfarin, the generic, until I had a rib resection to clear the passage way for my veins and arteries. I had that done last March of 2004. While in B-North my vascular DR was DR Annenburg. He was OK, but I had another business connection and actually researched several docs before finding DR. Peter Podore, a vascular surgeon who works out of Christ, where my 2 kids were born, incidently. I had tutored his 2 kids and had met him and his wife previously. I was very comfortable with him plus knew him a little. He's very accomplished, and I like how he's focused on working with patients and doing research for vascular issues which are NECESSARY. Dr Annenburg's outfit also does cosmetic vein work. You may wish to consult with one of these docs about having a baby and the risks, etc. Annenburg is a younger parent with small kids. He might be able to relate there. Podore has 3 children, but they are all college kids and beyond now. Good Luck! P.

I am sorry that you are going through this! I don't know anything about your particular condition but I do know that Dr. Confer-Seeley (and all the other Dr.s in the practice that I have come in contact with) at Maumee OB/GYN is wonderful!! I had a very difficult delivery and her associate Dr. Ruch handled it exceptionally. She only delivers at Toledo because it is a high risk facility and is a very nice and very straight forward doctor. She has answered all of our questions with a very no nonsense attitude. We both felt as if we were in very capable hands and I would recommend them to anyone. They are right off 475 in Maumee. Let me know if you need more info.
