I am going to my 1st apt. at Gulf Coast OB & GYN in Feb with my second pregnancy. Does anyone have any imput on their experiance with Dr. Martin & Dr. Doyle there? I lean more toward females although I have heard wonderful things about Dr. Easterling. Any imput from anyone who has used these OB's please would be appreciated. I know I have to pick one so I want imput. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I wouldn't send a friend to that office. Please don't go. I had one bad experience after another until I finally decided to find another practice, when I was around 18 weeks pregnant. Dr. Martin is nice but I always felt rushed (but that goes for the way everyone in the office works). You don't have the choice of having a doctor deliver your baby - only midwives - I only met L. a couple times... One time she was nice, one time she was not nice at all. Felt like they were barking orders at me and I wasn't part of what was going on. Always, always, everyone there made an issue of your weight and watching it and pointing out you were gaining it. It felt really crappy. The office doesn't agree with traveling of any kind (especially planes) during any time in your pregnancy and L. told me I would be going against medical/doctors orders. I could go on. But I hope you get my point.

Long story short, a friend recommended the office of Dr. Sullivan and Dr. Cohen on Bee Ridge. I always thought I only wanted to go to a female doc - so I hadn't considered them - but they were amazing. Everyone at the office is great and they made me feel good and ok with anything that was going on. Seriously, look into them. I'm sure you'd have a better experience than going to Dr. Martin's.

(BTW, I had two girls in my lamaze class with similar stories and bad experiences with both Dr. Martin and Dr. Valery-Doyle...my husband and I weren't shocked but couldn't believe how many people didn't like going there and actually had to switch doctors while they were pregnant! Talk about stress you don't need.)

Good luck.

Hi L. I went to Gulf Coast Ob's for my first preagnancy. I mainly saw Dr Martin and Easterling who are both great but I suggest you meet everyone in the office throughout your preagnancy beacase it depends on the on call doctor for deliveries. And generally the midwives do the deliveries which are all great. I never met Dr Doyle so I cant help you there. Good Luck!

L.,
Dr. Doyle has been my obgyn for the past 5 years. She is fabulous. Everyone at that practice is amazing. Yes, you'll have to 'select' a primary there, but you will see each doctor and nurse practicioner and midwife throughout the pregnancy. That's the way they do it there. That way you know everyone in the practice and everyone will be familiar with you and your baby throughout your pregnancy and on delivery day. I saw Dr. Doyle most often during my pregnancy and she was supposed to do my c-section but my little darling arrived early and Dr. Easterling wound up doing the procedure as he was the one on duty. He was fabulous as well, and he made me feel comfortable, etc. He did a great job on the surgery and also did my tubal ligation. Had no complications, etc. I still use Dr. Doyle as my gyn now that I'm out of the 'baby having' business and have seen a couple of the midwives and nurse pracs for appointments along the way. Dr. Doyle also did my son's circumcision in the office.
Anyway, they all get many kudos from me. Rest assured they are a great choice.
Good luck!

I have seen Dr. Martin for the 6 years and have always had a good experince with her. I had Dr. Doyle for my first child (induction at 42 weeks that ended up c-section). I didn't care for her and neither did my husband. She was pretty inconsiderate and intetnionally exculded my husband in decision making. My second c-section was done by Dr. Martin and was extremley pleasent. She is very accomodating. I was fussed at by everyone, but i think it is more along the lines of a remider not to gain too much weight. The more you gain the harder it is to get it off.
Also, I liked L. Danner as a mid-wife. I found she was the only one who actually looks you in the eyes instead of rambling off whatever they are supposed to be discussing with you. I guess it's all a matter of personal preference.

Congrats! on your soon to be new addition! I used Gulf Coast too. They were great. Dr. Doyle was my primary but I made it a point to have an appointment with every Dr. and midwife to meet them just incase they were the one to deliver our baby. My Bestfiend was also pregnant at the time and went there too. From a personal experience, I was not too crazy about Dr. Martin. My reason...I was about 6 months along and had gained 25 lbs already. He told me that I was gaining to much weight and that I should only gain between 15-20lbs! Everything that I have read and was told was tha 35lbs was average. So he just made me feel bad about myself(for a little bit). But besides that, My favorites were Doyle and a midwife, Lynn. Good Luck!!!!
