Seeking Info About Pregnancy Testing/ultrasound

I'm 41 years old and have a healthy 3 year old boy. I'm pregnant with my second child (girl) due end of May. We had 4 miscarriages undiagnosed between the pregnancies. I had a quad screen that came back very low risk 1/5000 for abnormalities and every high-level ultrasound we've had has come back with good measuring and no abnormalities. Yesterday I had a followup ultrasound and the tech found a ecogenic foci on the heart. She didn't seem too concerned but I've researched and found that it can be a soft marker for Down Syndrome. My sister who is an OB/Gyn reassured me that b/c all of my previous tests came back in good ranges and low risk I should not worry.... yet no one is 100%. We elected not to do an amnio b/c of my history. Has anyone else had the same results and have had a healthy baby?? I would appreciate any info/reassurance.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you! for all the responses for my question. We delivered a Healthy Baby Girl 2 weeks ago and she is Perfect! My delivery was so fast that her collarbone was broken in the process. We feel so fortunate after such a stressful 10 months of worry that she's so healthy!

I agree with your sister. With your little girl just having one soft marker and everything else is fine it really doesn't point to Down's. Our perinatologist told us that just one soft marker doesn't mean much, it's when you have several that it can be an indicator. For example, if your risk was 1/5000, one marker might change it to 1/4500, not bad odds if you ask me (my first son was a 1/49 chance).

My first son had enlarged kidneys throughout the pregnancy, another marker for Down's. He is perfectly normal in every way.

Please try not to worry, it sounds to me like all is going well. Congrats!!

Please don't worry, it isn't good for you or your baby. While I haven't been through exactly what your going through, Idid have 3 miscarriages(one was twins) between my two children. Every time I got pregnant I was concerned about losing that baby. I finally decided to put my trust in the Lord completely. I knew that he would never put me through more than I could handle. I will pray for you and your baby and believe that God will give you a perfectly normal baby girl. He blessed me with a son(now 19) and a daughter(now 15) I know that he'll bless you too.

Yes, I am 41 years old and am holding my perfectly healthy 6 month old son. I have 5 children and I had a miscarriage 9 months priar to having my son. My tests all came back the same and level 2 sonos ended up looking good. Dr. said at time of sono she was 80% sure he was fine and he is perfect! Good Luck to you. My prayers are with you.

Leslie, I was not diagnosed with the same problem, but with my second child they said he had a dialated ventricle in his brain. This can also be a sign of downs or hydrocephalis. They were not overly concerned because all of my tests came back normal. I on the other hand got on-line!! Not a good thing for someone like me:) I worried myself sick. My son was born healthy and he is now 4 years old!! It is soo hard when you find something like this out and no matter how many people told me not to worry I could not help it!! Just know that you are in many peoples prayers!!!

L....I haven't had the same issues, but as an older mom (I had my first 2 in my late teens early 20's and my last two late 30's)..I worried but refused amino - the baby nor you needs the stress...just know that god only give us what he thinks we can handle - quit researching - you're only causing yourself anxity - and just enjoy the pregnancy and your alone time with your toddler!!!

First off I know nothing of what you are facing or going through other than I have had two miscarriages also and we are from the same area. But you should listen to your Dr.'s especially your SISTER! and stop stressing out!! that cannot be good for either you or your baby. What comes, comes and be thankful that you both make it through it! Sounds to me like you will have a hand full of perfect pink very soon! Take care and RELAX! BREATHE! Your real fear is Teenhood! lol
