Hello. I need to get my son out of his current daycare situation, certain things have come to my attention that I am not comfortable with. I'd prefer it was not an In-home facility. And so I'm searching for an inexpesive daycare or preschool for my three yr old. I live in Aurora and work in DTC, so really almost anywhere in the Metro area would work. Does anyone have any suggestions. I'd like for him to be in a teaching enviornment to get him ready for school.

What can I do next?

Go to qualistar.org. They do a vigorous screening of all daycares in all areas, and they only list the ones that are approved by their standards. You just type in the zipcode and a few other details (if you want home or center daycare, hours, etc) and it will make a list for you. I'm pretty sure you can post comments about the daycares so if the one you took your 3 year old to is on the site, you can post something about your experience.

I love St. Michael's Preschool. It is close to Hampden and Tower. This is my daughter's second year. I like that while there is some structured time with story time, there is also free time. The kids decide for themselves which area to play/learn in and they are not forced to work in a certain area. So they are learning in a caring, non-forceful environment. They only have morning or afternoon sessions which are 2 1/2 hours in length, no all day sessions. While I am a stay-at-home mom, so this wasn't an issue, I do believe I have seen La Petite bringing kids to and from the preschool. Good luck!

www.corra.org is the colorado office of resources and referrals and has a full listing. I would also recommend you look into YMCAs - my kids attended the Schlessman Y at Yale and Colo Blvd in Denver and their program is wonderful.

I can recommend Positive Alternative, which is at Yale and Parker. My daughter goes there. It's not a fancy place, but the teachers are really great. The teachers really get to know and care about the kids, and focus on teaching them how to treat one another well, learn life skills, etc. If the location works for you and your job, I would definitely suggest checking it out.

Hi K.,

Have you looked into au pair childcare as an option? It's very affordable, it's childcare in YOUR home, and you have the peace of mind that you trained the au pair to provide care the way you want it.

Let me know if you'd like more info.

Warmly,
S. Mesh
