Hi moms,
My husband and I would like to take a long weekend road trip with our 4 and 6 year old boys. We have been to Branson and Great Wolf Lodge so we are looking for something a little different.I was wondering about taking Amtrak. Do you think the kids would like it or get bored? Our schedules have been very busy and we are just looking for some family fun and to spend some quality time together. Any advice or ideas would be great. Thanks!!!

What can I do next?

What about renting a condo at the Lake of the Ozarks and maybe renting a boat if that's in your budget...

Hi,

We went on the Amtrak with all three kids to Kansas City. We had a fantastic time going there. The ride back took longer than expected but overall I would highly recommend the train as a fun adventure for your family. We went a year and a half ago. Send me a e-mail if you would like more information..

How about going to the YMCA's Trout Lodge (www.ymcaoftheozarks.org)?

There are special "theme weekends" that you can participate in ("Go Global" and "Spring Adventure"), but you can go just about any weekend.

When I was 12, my family took Amtrak from SW Wisconsin to the very NW corner of Montana. One of my sister's was 10 and the other was 2. My parents brought little travel games and her Barbies and books, colors and coloring books. By the time we got back to Wisconsin and had to get off at our stop, my youngest sister cried and cried. "No, my train, my train...." She didn't want to get off and we told her that she had to because it needed to leave. She was not a happy camper. My parents also walked her to the lounge car, where there was a little more room and they would have movies on there and in the lower level where there was a little snack bar. I would say that they would enjoy the train ride more than riding in the car. It's an adventure!

Have fun!
