Seeking Help with Health Issue for My Five Year Old

My five year old has sores that are bleeding around her mouth and nose. We just finished getting over the flu 3 weeks ago. It's all dry and scaley patchy and constantly breaks open and bleeds. They don't look like cold sores which are blister like. They almost look like a rash and she says they hurt. Any ideas on how to help her?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone for your input. It was just irritation from the runny nose and sorry drool. I've used Aquaphor on it and it is completely healed up. Again thank you for your time.

You really need to get your child to a doctor ASAP. She could have a staph infection, among many other infections.

I can't believe you wouldn't have taken her already. Please, take her!!!

Urgent care ASAP. Your daughter could have a staph infection. Don't waste your time talking to people on here or guessing what it could be. Get her to the doctor right away.

This sounds a LOT like impetigo. You need to get her to the doctor to get her help. Impetigo will just keep spreading.

So very sorry!

Have you had her looked at by a doctor?
That's probably what I'd do.
Good luck!

I am not a doctor, and only you know what your child has been through.

My first thought upon reading this was that her mouth and nose area is probably just raw and cracked from the flu, vomitting and blowing her nose. My daughter had something similar. For my daughter, using a Q-tip to apply vaseline to the area in the morning and right before bedtime, for a few days helped it heal. If you do use vaseline, remember to keep it away from her mouth and eyes.

Since the area is dry and cracked enough to bleed, I would call the pediatricians nurse line and ask their opinion. They may want to check her out to make sure there isn't an infection. Since it is the weekend, I would consider going to an Urgent Care. They are there to answer your questions.
