I need help! My sons are 4 years apart so it is quite hard for me to find time for both of them one on one. My oldest is 5 and will be starting school in august and, my youngest just turned 1. Any Advice? I also need help with finding crafts or activities for my 5 year old and I can do together.

What can I do next?

my boys are 6 year apart and it isnt always easy to find stuff to do together. I try to spend together and individual time together even if I just take one with to run errands with me or go shopping. Like monday sort of spontaneous my youngest (8) was running errands with me instead just going home we had a late lunch at Subway(his favorite) then went and wandered around a pet store we had never been too. My oldest (15) went with me to pick out birthday presents for nieces and nephews last night. While we do these things we talk about life and friends and just stuff. So even if it isnt a planned organized activity try to make sure you get at least a couple hours a week one on one not just now, it is very important the older they get.

My 5 yr old boy really loves to build things. We have a sand pit in the backyard full of tonka trucks and platic pieces he can build bridges and roads with. I supervise. :)
He likes trains, boats, airplanes. Sometimes we go to the observation point across from our airport and watch the planes take off and land. We will ride the commuter train around town, just to ride it. we all go as a family and ride the train downtown, get out and have an ice cream and then ride it back ot our car. I drive him over the bridge that crosses the little lake near our house. He likes to be over the water and look at all the boats. Baby can sleep in the carseat while you take 5 yr old for a drive to see planes,, trains, and baots.
So far as crafts and activities, why dont you work on school readiness. Make sure he can use rounded scissors, glue, markers, hold a pencil, and crayon. Teach him to write his name, numbers, and letters.

Like one of the other posters, my boys are 6.5 years apart, but are older than yours. Mine are 7 and 13. I also agree that before bed is an easy time to get one on one time, especially with your youngest. Reading before bed has always been a favorite in our house. With your 5 year old (and my 7 year old), Lego building is fun! When school starts you will have lots of time with your youngest if you are a SAHM. I'm a teacher, so I wasn't home with my youngest, but I have altered who I picked up first after school through the years, and even that time in the car has become precious. Sitting in the car line waiting to pick up the other brother, I have wonderful conversations with whichever son I pick up first.

As for crafts, we just keep supplies on hand - paint, paper, markers, colors, chalk, glue, clay, play-doh, etc. , and pull it out and see what happens. I let the kids create whatever they imagine, and I create with them, but I generally don't have a plan. During the holidays we sometimes make specific things, but usually we don't.

Have fun enjoying your boys!

Before bedtime is a great time, I am sure they have different bedtimes. Having a special night time routine is something you can carry over and adjust as they get older. Having help in the kitchen is a good time for one on one. Any time you are in the car with just one is a great time. Enlist someone so that you can make special one on one "dates" for the longest time my SO would have "daddy daughter days" and they would go and do something special, play at the park, then get an ice cream at McDonalds. It doesn't have to be expensive. You can spend money buying arts and crafts "kits" but you can also find plenty of free sites that offer ideas for simple but fun arts and crafts ideas...and even a 1 year old can do things like finger paint and glue and other sensory stuff ( even my 10 year old likes to play with shaving cream as a sensory activity) so don't be afraid to try some projects with the two together, you will just have to tailor them a bit to suit each child's needs.
I have found most of the blog style activity suggestions from being on facebook, but you can find them on the net...google No Time For Flashcards, its a good one. I like this one too http://www.teachpreschool.org/
