Hi M.,
I just found a web site for arm braces. armbraces.com has diferent fabrics that you chose from and they run about $19. I was looking because my daughter has developmental delays and is always sucking her thumb so with these braces we could keep her thumb out of her mouth during therpies.

Hello M.,
Medical companies make arm restraints that can be placed on the childs arms. We used them on the children at the Pediatric Nursing Home that were on venilators and had a tendacy to pull their tubes out. It is a device that stops the arms from bending at a certain degree so they were unable to reach their necks at where the tubes were connected. They would stop you son from being able toplace his hands in his mouth. I'm sure if you ask your Doctor about them he would know what I am talking about. Also, most insurance companies will cover a mojority of the price since it would be needed. Hope this helped and Good Luck :-)

I don't really know what that is, but if you explain it more, maybe we can help. What is Hopatic Cp and what is it caused from?

I would think this would be linked the involuntary movement that his muscle are doing rather than a conscience thing he is deciding to do. You may be able to talk to the doctor about ways to keep his hands out of his mouth, but I would think the only way would be to restrain him and that is not optimal. I know there are so many treatments and even new test treatments they are doing on patients with cp and maybe there is a study out there he could get involved with directly related to the muscle function, which would probably be something you would wan to consult your local hospital, they might be able to help with that. Good luck to you.
