Check out Craig's List. There is a "free" section where people are always giving things away if you pick them up. Good luck to you.
Hi J.,
I don't know what type of building/construction materials you are looking for but Habitat for Humanity (Restore in Detroit) may be able to help you. The cost of things there are much less expensive than other places like Home Depot and Lowes. Good luck!!!

I don't know if you received my response or not. You should call and check with Habitat for Humanity. Maybe they have leftover material they could pass on. Also you could check with freecycle http://www.freecycle.org/group/US/Michigan They are local yahoo groups where you can post items you would like to get rid of and pass on to others that could use them or post for items that you need/want. I belong to several ones in the area. Flat Rock, Woodhaven, downriver, taylor, ect.
Good luck and good for you!
