My son will be 3 in December, and it's time for his first dental appointment. Does anyone know of a really good pediatric dentist in the Cedar Hills/St. Vincent area? We'd be willing to travel a ways if we found someone we loved.

What can I do next?

Dr. Allan Pike is wonderful! We've started seeing him when my daughter turned three last year. So far she has been to his office twice for bi-yearly cleaning/check-up appointments and she loves it. All the staff are very friendly; they have a philosophy that aims to relax the children before they can develop a fear of dentists. They have gerbils to feed, little trinkets children can choose and keep, dvds they can watch etc.
The only thing I was apprehensive about at first was waiting in the waiting room when my daughter was alone with the hygienist.(They seem to prefer this to develop a one-on-one relationship with the children; all the patients are next to each other in one big room) The second time we went there I chose to stay with her and they were fine with it.
Overall a great experience!

Michelle Stafford is really great and right at Barnes and Cedar Hills. She is new to Portland and has a great new office set up for kids. My son didn't want to leave after we took him to his first appointment last week. Since she is new to the area, she is a lot easier to get an appointment with as well.

As the other moms point out - Dr. Pike. Great people, great practice. My daughter, 3.5 yrs old, had a great experience on her first visit Also, just a month ago she had a "sore tooth", so I called to have them take a look. Turned out to be food caught deep in between her molars, whew...but, what was amazing was that they didn't even charge me for the visit. Now, that is a service oriented family practice - what an unexpected plus!

Dr. Allen Pike is the best pediatric dentist in the world. His son, Dr. Steven Pike has now joined his practice. They are located at Sylvan so very close to you. Definitely call and set up an appt.

Dr. Marshall Ruby is a great pediatric dentist. I have been taking my son to him for around 10 years. He's located at the corner of Cedar Hills Blvd & Parkway. Hope this helps!

I second Dr. Pike! Same experience for my 3 year old who used to be shy, shy, shy. She loved going to the dentist for her visit and I think it sets the foundation for a her attitude about going again during her childhood.

Good luck!
