Seeking Good Pediatrician in the Chesterton/Valparaiso Area

I moved to the Chesterton area on December 1st after living in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago. I had a fantastic pediatrician that I just LOVED! When we moved our daycare gave us a recommendation for Associated Pediatricians in the area. We have gone there several times and my fiancee and I are questioning if it is a good fit. We NEVER questioned our previous pediatrician and in-fact I felt INCREDIBLY confident. Does anyone have recommendation for their pediatrician in the area. I am hoping to get a group as I find it's easier to get an appointment then. If you could maybe provide what you like about your peditrician including the ease of getting an appointment for sick children, speaking with the nurses, etc.

What can I do next?

I have not found a good fit in the Chesterton/Valpo area either. We drive to Dyer, IN to Dr. Stroman his office number is ###-###-#### and he gave us his cell when my daughter was born. I have never had a hard time getting and they are great about returning calls right away. They are great it is worth the drive! He works with St.Anthony Hospital in Crown Point that is how we found him. We prefer St. Anthony over Porter. Good Luck!

Hi, L..

I bring my kids to Drs. Gatz, Lin and Pi. Gatz and Lin are male and Pi is female, if you have a preference. None is any better than another, though some seem busier than others. They will always take a sick child the same day, though you'd have to see whoever is available. The nurses all seem to be on the ball. And the best thing is, if you call to leave a message with a question or to talk to a nurse, a lot of times, it's the doctor himself who calls back. Just the other day, I called because my daughter had an unusually high temp on a Friday. They took me on Saturday, when the office is usually closed, because they said they were taking overflow for kids who could not wait for Monday.

Hi L.,
Dr. Jacobi at the medical group in Michigan City is really fantastic. My mother had all three of us go to him. He is incredibly patient, does not rush through appointments and is extremely flexible if you need to see him on the spot.
I remember specifically that my little brother had an asthma attack and spent a night in the hospital. Dr J. came to talk to my mother about it to give her some confidence about the situation on his way to the airport leaving for vacation! We always felt he was really looking out for us. On a personal note, I think he always goes the extra mile. My mother and father are refugees. We always felt that he took extra consideration for us so that he had the confidence also that we understood all that was being said. The language problem was not really an issue but Dr. Jacobi just went the extra mile.
I know you are living in Chesterton/Valpo, if you do not find anyone closer you are happy with then Dr Jacobi may be a good fit. Best, VK

Our son is 8 and has gone to Dr. Evangelina Marquez since birth. We love her. She's very thorough and completely committed to her patients. It's not hard to get an appointment for a sick child and her nurses are easy to talk to. She's located on the north side of Valparaiso. Our son loves her.

Good luck.

Both my sister and I take our children to Associated Peds. My son is 14 and my daughter is 8...so we have been going there a long time. Usually I just take whatever Dr. is available to fit my schedule. Lately, I have been more picky. My son sees Dr. Bukata. He is good. (My sister loves Bukata) He is direct and to the point...which may seem a little "harsh" at first. We are used to his "style" now. My daughter used to see Dr. Bishop. Unfortunately, we are no longer going to see her. We are currently searching as well for my daughter. I have heard that Dr. Harrington is good. There is also a new Dr. that joined the team (cannot remember her name). I went w/ my sister for her daughter and we had her. I actually liked her. She was very gentle and softspoken. Didn't make you feel like your a "bad mom". We have been going there for a long time and are still "searching" for the right fit. Good Luck!

I'm not sure who you have seen at Associated Peds but some doctor's there are better than others. I take my kids there and love Dr. Brogan. Dr. Bukata is my second choice. My son had horrible acid reflux and other issues when he was first born and I talked with Dr. Brogan every week and she was wonderful and supportive. I hope you find the right fit for you.
