don't give alot of apple juice-it loosens the bowels, but applesauce is ok because it has pectin, which is used in astringing the bowels (used in kaoepectate) carotts boiled and then pureed into a soup form is also very good, contains alot of carotine. chicken causes gas. make sure he gets enough fiber in his diet. keep his intestinal flora balanced by giving live culture, yogurt daily. boil white rice and save the starchy water. slightly flavor with a bit of good juice and put it in his bottle or sippy cup with a little extra water. give it to him anytime he will drink something. The ricewater drink is served like a glass of water in many countries where diahrea is a problem. It is used in chinese medicine to astringe the bowels. Always shake up the ricewater before filling his container he will drink from (starch settles to the bottom) If you try these things I hope they help your little guy. Sincerely F.

My son had a colostomy when he was just a few days old. It was reversed about a year later. He is 9 years old now and doing great. We had a really hard time when he was in preschool and kindegarten because he to this day can't drink fruit juice without getting diarhea. Also, if he eats too much fruits or vegetables. I can't get my older one to eat them, but because my younger one can't have them, he craves them more than candy. We monitored his diet very closely at home, but at school, he always seemed to sneak a juice onto his tray. Then he would trade another child his dessert for their fruits and vegetables. By the time he was in second grade, he finally figured out that there were consequences from eating certain foods. Now he is more able to control his impulses, although every once in a while he will eat it anyway. If his problems are very severe, then you might want to ask your pediatrician for a referral to a G.I. Specialist. He would probably be able to give you an actual list to follow. Ours did all those years ago. Just remember that each child is different in what their system can handle. I hope this helps.
