I would like to get opinions on the Jeep Grand Cherokee. If you or your husband have one or know someone that does, please let me know what you think regarding reliability, safety, etc. My husband is thinking about a 2002 model and has seen some issues listed with consumer reports, but we would like to get first hand info. Thanks!!!

What can I do next?

I had a 2001 that I loved. I traded it in toward a 2005, which I don't really like. (Much smaller, more like a sport wagon than a sport ute, clunkier, seems 'cheaper' on the inside) so all I can say is I liked my 2001 a lot, don't love the later model.

I've got a 2001 with nearly 94,000 miles on it. I had a transmission issue about 10,000 miles ago which cost me about $700. I've also had the motors go out in both front windows ($200 each to fix). We've not yet had to deal with safety issues, thank goodness. I have a five year old and an infant who fit in the back seat snuggly.

Hello,

We also live near White Rock Lake. I have a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee that I am now selling. Not because we don't like it, but because we just bought a 2005 Toyota Sienna mini van. We just needed more comfort, space and storage for long road trips. The jeep was great. The only complaint I had was that it was noisy. But, I've heard that about the jeeps and knew that when I got it. Besides that, I loved my grand cherokee.

Hi,

I bought a 1998 Grand Cherokee brand new in 1998 and drove it for 130,000 miles with only one minor maintenance issues. I did have an emission problem (in the computer system) that cost only about $200 to fix. It wasn't a problem for me other than it had to be fixed to pass inspection. That was at 100,000 miles. We still have the 1998 and use it to tow behind our RV. It still runs great, but we bought a brand new 2006 Grand Cherokee in March because we got a great deal on it and couldn't pass up the opportunity. I love the GC so much I bought it the second time around. Can't say enough great things about them. My first one never let me down, was and still is reliable.
