Seeking Excellent Childcare Provider

My only child is a bright 2 1/2 year old daughter. She has been going to an in-home daycare for 9 months now. I'm beginning to have reservations about the quality of care she has been receiving. I'm potty training her, and I suspect that her provider has not been working with her. 4 times out of 5 I'll pick her up to find her with a dirty diaper. I want a provider that will help with the potty training process. Also, I want her to start learning more at daycare. I desire for her to go to a daycare that is more like a school than just a daycare. I'd like a place with classes where she can learn art, abc's, math, reading, possibly a foreign language. I want her to have homework. I know that may sound like a lot for a 2 year old. But I want to get her started early. I can pay up to $135wk. I live in the NW part of Oklahoma City near Penn Square mall. Any suggestions, please? Thank you.

What can I do next?

Heritage Hall in NW OKC seems to have a great program. We're looking into it for my daughter to start kindergarten next year. I'm not sure what their prices are for preschool, but they're pretty expensive for kindergarten. They start introducing foreign languages at very young ages, so this may be worth the price for you. Definitely worth looking into.

If you are open to a center daycare, instead of in-home, I would consider checking with a La Petitie. They are national and have a lot of locations. We looked at the one down the street and they have a curriculum in place that seemed pretty good and that starts at a young age. You can check it out on their website at: http://www.lapetite.com/public/

I am not sure how much for a 2 year old, but we checked on and it was going to be about $650/mth for a 6 mth old. I am sure a 2 year old is cheaper.

I really liked the center and the people pretty well. The only thing I didn't like is the center as a whole seemed small and cramped. I also didn't like the fact that there were no hallways in the building. After you squeeze through the tiny lobby, you are immediately in a classroom and have to go through other classrooms to get to your child's room. I am thinking that would be very distracting during learning/napping/etc. not to mention even more exposure to germs/illness/etc., but I am a germaphobe and probably way more freakish than most! Anyway, that is really the only thing I didn't care for and I am pretty particular!!

Daycare is such a hard decision. I wish it was easier!

Good luck!

Hi Mellissa,
I have worked both daycare and childcare I never really thought about it much until I was in a seminar and the speaker asked all the day care workers to stand nearly the whole room stood he stated ya know you all are caring for the days. Thats when every thing clicked with me I began to look at how I was treating the children and the families and made a change because I was waiting on the clock to ring and I went to that into waiting to getting to my career in the morning. Children are a precious jewels and at the age your child is at she is litterally a sponge for knowledge. When you are searching think about that in the back of your mind, ask for credentials(confrences attended), see also if they are trying to earn their CDA or CCP, they are basically an associates degree in the feild of childcare, and see if the teacher is up talking to you to you to much as opposed to being on the floor with the kids and talking to you many parent understand. Good luck.
