Seeking Empathetic Pediatrician

I have a beautiful, sweet, yet colicky 3 1/2 month old baby girl. I'm looking for a pediatrician who is willing to look into the source of my baby's discomfort. Her current pediatrician just keeps saying that she'll out grow it over time to just let her cry it out. It's hard enough to feel helpless, but maddening to think of letting her lie alone in pain.
Please let me know of any peds. in the Reno area that are willing to help.
Thank you,
S.

Hi, I agree that there is no cure for colic--babies's digestive systems aren't fully mature until 3 or 4 months and that's typically why they have crying jags--too much gas! I understand how you feel about the helplessness...but why does she need to lie alone in pain? Try rocking, bouncing, and walking around with her--babies crave their mommy's touch and that's what calms my 8 week old when she has gas. But the real life saver for me has been my Moby wrap...my girl loves to be worn and as soon as I started doing it, her nighttime fussiness went from an hour at a time to 20 minutes...in fact, there are even nights that are fussfree! Plus, my arms are free to do other things...she even naps in it....hope this helps!

Oh, and we see Dr. Dianna Thomas--she's in practice with Dr. Byram at Pediatrics R Us in Sparks...she is fantastic!

Milcon drops are wonderful. It worked wonders with my 3 children. Have you tried holding her facing out resting on your arm and walking around with her. Good luck

I'm not sure about the pediatrician thing, but are you nursing? My daughter had a real problem with my diet. Dairy, spinach, pretty much anything I liked, caused her a lot of horrible gas pains. It would start between 3 & 5 pm & go on for hours. It seems like it's happening forever, but it does go away...thank god! If you're on formula, they might suggest another brand or type of formula. You can try to get in to see Dr. Diamond- he's a homeopathic doctor. The problem is that well visits tend to be booked out a while. Good luck, take a few short walks out of the house occasionally to get away from the crying, so you don't lose your mind!

S.,
I am not sure what kind of pedetrician you are looking, but I believe that there is no cure for colicky babies that's why doctors just tell you that they will grow out of it by 4 or 5 monts. But they should give you the list of thing that would help colicky babies or you can look it up online on babycenter.com. I have two boys who both were colicky and I know it's not easy, but it does go away. What helped me was getting help from husband, mom, friends. I remember our boys would get colicky from about 5pm until about 9pm. and the only thing that helped was carrying them or going outside for a walk. Good luck to you and your baby girl.
P.S: We've been going to dr. Byram in Sparks for last five years and she is very knowledgable at her job.

My pediatrician is David Zucker i went to him as a child and now my children go to him. I think he is the best in town! My daughter also had problems around 2 months or so when i lived in Washington state, my doctor up there put her on Zantac i worked wonderful also if you are nurcing her she could have thrush which is a yeast infection to the mouth and it can cause her to be gassy. My daughter had that as well.

I hope this helps,

C.
