Seeking Educational and Fun Events in Metro Detro for My 3 Yo

We buy an annual pass to Greenfield Village/Henry Ford Museum, and then we go ALOT! It ends up being a very good deal if you use it frequently. My kids are 3 and almost 1, and my 3 year old is getting to know alot about trains, farm animals, old cars, tractors, and airplanes. He's starting to comprehend that people used to do things differently than we do them now, and I'm hoping to instill a love of history in both my kids. The museum is a great place to go in the winter when you're starting to get stir-crazy, and I see plenty of other moms there who have the same idea.

I'd suggest signing up for the Greatstufftodo.com email. I often find things in there that I would have never known about. They list all sorts of things from concerts to library events and the newsletter is free.

We have lived in Plymouth for 5 years--welcome to the neighborhood!! It is a wonderful place to be! The Plymouth library is absolutely amazing, and yes, they have mom and tot story time, etc...just check their website and you will find the schedule. I have not done it yet, as my son is too little, but my sister goes and her daughter loves it.
In addition, some other fun things to take note of.....
Santa comes to the downtown area on the evening after Thanksgiving. It is a big thing--tons of people, Christmas carols, hot chocolate, and then they bring Santa on the fire truck. Tons of families and kids. Check the Plymouth web to make sure of time, etc..
Also, in the summer, you can't beat Friday night concert in the park. (If you haven't already been). The downtown park is packed, and the bands are great. Tons of families with kids. Blankets, lawn chairs, etc...
On Wednesday afternoons in the summer they have kids music in the park.
Anyway, I hope you find lots of fun things to do!!

The Ann Arbor Hands On Museum is great for kids of all ages - something that you can visit over and over again. Also in Ann Arbor is a natural history museum (part of UM) that is very good - maybe good for a little bit older though (mine were maybe 5 when we first visited). There is a mag that comes out monthly that is free called Metro Parent that lists kid friendly events all over the area that I've found to be a good source of info. Good luck!

They have the library listings, as well as other things around town to do. They list the appropriate ages for each event, as well as the cost.
Something of interest in Canton is an aquatic event every Wednesday and Friday. Wish I would have had something like that for my boys when they were growing up.
Also, check with your local Parks & Recreation Departments. They have a lot of programs to offer.
There is also Castaway Cafe in Howell. On some days, they have a special that if you get there before 9am, the day is free. They have a great menu of food, not overpriced. This place offers a lot of stimulation.

I am also a Mom (7yo & 10yo daughters) and participated
in Music Together classes with both of them. I loved it so
much I trained with one of the co-founders and now teach
Music Together classes in Plymouth at the Play Cafe 306 S. Main St, and in Canton on weekdays and Saturday mornings!
Classes are mixed-age 0-5 with parent/care-giver and last for 45 minutes. We explore songs,dance, rhythm rhymes and instrumentd together. I've been so impressed with the research I am continuously
receiving that supports learning through music and movement
in young children. Both of my daughters now have a great music foundation and are enjoying dance, violin and piano a great deal because they enjoyed experiencing these foundations as young children.

Barnes & Nobles at 6 Mile and 275. They have story time during the day and at night. It use to be Tuesdays from 11-11:30am and Wednesday evenings at 7:00pm. It was great when I took my daughter there when she was little. Contact them to make sure the times haven't changed.

Hi A.. I know Borders books has storytime too, and it's on Saturdays. Also, I heard the Hands on Museum in Ann Arbor is pretty cool. And there's always Greenfield Village and Henry Ford Museum. Have fun!!

Welcome to the area. I would suggest during one of your visits to the library that you ask for MetroParent, it's a great magazine the has a listing of what's going on in the area for kids. Also, if you're in Plymouth, check out Compass Point Cafe, similar to Jungle Java, closer to you. You'll find there are a lot of things to do in Plymouth in the summer for kids too. Just have to get through the winter! Stay warm!
