site 49 or lastminutetravel.com but comes with a car or hotel still usually a better deal
I recently had to fly to Baltimore to be with my daughter who is ill. She is recovering now and I need to return home to Dallas but wondered if anyone had any secrets for discounts on a flight home booked the day before departure.

I'm sorry but I don't know any secrets. I wish I did. My hubby travels weekly and I manage all of his travel plans. It happens sometimes that he gets a last minute trip and it is hard to find a decent deal. I work directly with the airlines, mostly American and Southwest. If you book online, you do save fees.
Southwest usually has a better deal money wise but it can take you forever to get home because you can't fly directly into Love Field. Sometimes it is worth the time if the cost if American is too high.
I tend to stay away from the online services because I have found that those ticketed passengers get bumped first.
Good luck and let me know if you find out any secrets!
I am glad your daughter is recovering.

Travelocity! We love it! Don't book until a few days before and be prepared with a few computers and credit card numbers in case you don't get your first request. If you don't get it the first time, they make you change something about your flight, like arrival or departure date. It works best if you're a little flexible.
I recently bought a ticket (on Travelocity) to new york and the round trip was half the price of one wayless than hal, actually. You might consider that and just not use the return portion. Using Travelocity, Orbitz, etc., can be tricky because the ticket is written in stone and every little change costs $$. But if you can be flexible you can get a good deal. Good luck.
Hi C.,
Check out www.lastminute.com There are times I have found really great deals on that site. You may also check with use of rental car or hotel, because sometimes the rates are even lower if choosing those as extras...
