Hi mamasource I always see such cute ideas at baby showers with the food especially fruit salads/trays. I have a baby shower to attend on sunday and have been assigned the veggie tray. are there any creative ways to do this more than just have them all laid out on the tray?
Perhaps instead of laying them all out, cut the "stick" veggies (carrots, celery, zucchini, cucumbers, etc) and stand them up in little glasses or smaller bowls, so they fan out!
My mom used to do the following: cover a styrofoam cone (available at craft stores) with aluminum foil, cut a variety of vegies to bite size pieces, use toothpicks to cover the cone with vegies. Looks like a vegie tree when down. Set on a small tray and provide bowls of dip around it.
I have never tried doing this a veggie thing but for a fruit salad at a baby shower I carved a baby buggie out of a watermelon and then used that as the vessel to hold the fruit salad. I would think you could do the same thing with a pumpkin. Just find one that is longer and narrower and put it on it's side. Just google watermelon baby buggy (or carriage) and you will find photos and instructions. You could put something inside the pumpkin to make it shallow and then do the veggies arranged inside the carriage. You could use gourds for wheels. Good luck!
I think it would be cute to make a veggie tray with a shape to it. I Googled images of veggie trays for baby showers and actually thought this was cute!

J.; hmm i guess you could cut the carrots into little people, but that takes alot of time, nothing like a vegatable tray, they go over so well, and if there are leftovers, you get to take some home and finish it later, easy to do, great party tray, how about tinting the dip a color, but things colored usually dont get eaten but hey it could look good either pink or blue, ahahah just enjoy the vegee tray and maybe buy a nice tray to put it on, or buy colored foil, and line a tray with a color,fruit trays work well too, with the marshmellow creme dip, any way , have a good baby shower, and enjoy life, D. s
I tried the veggie stick idea and everyone loved it. However I used a cauliflower had as the base. Worked great!!! You can also try cutting radishes into flowers and green onions try splicing the green stems. Very pretty.
