Hello. I'm starting up a small business specializing in custom paintings/murals for children's rooms (nursery, bedrooms, bathrooms & playrooms). This is something I've been wanting to do for a very long time and finally acting on it. Since this is my "baby", I need the perfect name! I figured what better people to ask for advice than a group of moms! I'm interested in something clever and quirky along the lines of business names already taken like the "Painted Zebra", the "Hairy Elephant", WallNutz, etc. I try to design different, unique theme rooms and incorporate things like swings, benches, paper mache balloons, different textures into the room. I'm also going to offer canvas paintings for those who want a themed room but not necessarily a painted mural. In addition, another thing I'm considering to offer is custom themed "birthday" packages for busy moms where they can purchase hand-made creative invitations, thank you notes, custom painted ceramic plate for the birthday boy/girl and party favors with the option of coordinating theme/colors for plates and silverware. I've done a lot of this stuff as a hobby and for friends. If anyone has any suggestions, let me know!! I'd appreciate any feedback on possible names or the services I mentioned.
Hello Ladies! I just wanted to give you an update regarding the business name selected. You all were so very helpful with ideas and advice, thank you. A lot of the suggestions were already taken and not available. The name I selected for the company is "Brighten my World"! I'm very happy with it and think it communicates the intended services. I wouldn't have been able to come up with that name had it not been for someone on mamasource suggesting "Color my World", which was already taken. So once again a BIG thank you to you!! I've got the ball rolling to make things official. Eventually, I'll have a website with a portfolio and will send out an email once that happens.
In the meantime, I signed up with a company called BeautiControl to earn extra income while I'm building my business. They sell quality skin care and spa products. I never heard of them until a few weeks ago (although they've been in business for 25 yrs) when I by chance tried their products and fell in love. I was never much on attending parties but this has a different twist where it's a home spa atmosphere and guests get to experience/try different spa treatments for free. Then if there was any treatments or products the guests liked, they have the opportunity to purchase the items to enjoy at home. Since I've been going through all of this infertility stuff and quiting my corporate job.....I'm ALL about some relax de-stress time!!!! Anyway, if any of you would be interested in a free one hour "Spa Escape", please let me know. I send out all of the invitations for the hostess and there are hostess opportunities for free products (so far all of the products I've tried are AWESOME)! I can travel outside the St. Louis area. I am not that creative I was thinking "Outa the box" More inportantly I know some one who can go into partnership with ya, she has amazing talent. Than i need to hire you, my 8 year old boy has put in his order.(a rock band)
How about "Whimsi-wall" Play on the word "whimsical". Whimsywall? Guess spelling is up to you...

I love the idea! I paint my kids rooms with murals, I have been painting for a while but never as a business, I do my jelwelry instead because it takes less time, but I still love to get into my painbrushes, I do hope you have agreat success with it since I know you put your heart in each mural, specially when you custom design one for someone special.

I worked for an ad agency that specialized in branding/naming for years, and the FIRST thing that popped into my head when I read your post was ... ART GEKO! You know, a play off "art deco" and the cute little green ... nevermind. Just a thought! :)

I was going to try and come up with something clever becuase I think this sounds like an amazing business idea, but instead I am going to 'second' Jodi L's suggestion of ART GECKO. It's catchy, it's cute and it gives you a million options for your signage. I just looked on google images and there are some great pictures of geckos...even their funky little feet are precious!!

Don't limit your name to child type painting if you want to really grow your business. Also, start it with an "A", "B" or "C" so that it's first in the phone book....All About Walls?

I am excited for you. As a professional interior decorator, I recommend that you set down in writing what you are willing and not willing to do. Give yourself a price list and then stick to that program for a while. You will find that customers have a way of getting a lot more than what they initially asked for at your expense. It is a difficult business and requires the ability to say "No", or "I would love to but that would need to be quoted seperately". If you do not have insurance it is a must. Anything can happen in someone's home, it may or may not be your fault, but accidents happen. Fortunately I have not had to deal with it, but I know those that have. You are embarking on an exciting adventure. Remember to set limits with your customers and yourself and you will have the time of your life!!! S. While some of the ideas like Baby Haven etc may limit you to only small children. While Wall Dreams could encompass both younger and older children like teens and more.
So what is your goal? Write it down. Write down your goals. Put together a portfolio. Pictures once you have rooms completed, but drawing of ideas will also work. Write down examples of costs and bids you would write up with details on what it does and more importantly what it does not include.
Then network with everyone you know. Hand out business cards and get a good website.
I do not have a name for you, but I am looking for someone to do a "outdoor" themed mural for my 4 yr olds room. Feel free to contact me.
Color Their World or Wall Dreams are my favorites. It really needs to be something that describes what you do. You may even want to have one name for the parties and a related name for the murals/art.
You'll also want to make sure you can get a website that matches your company name - www.godaddy.com is a great host site. Inexpensive and quality. Be careful searching for website names just anywhere on the web - there are people who track that and will buy the site just because it had traffic! GoDaddy's reputable though and will even help you broker a deal if the site's owned by someone who might sell it.
Sounds like a neat plan - one you have passion for. Make sure that you evaluate the part of the business that's your weakest and get someone to help you with that. That's the biggest lesson my husband & I have learned!

I really like the two you mentioned, "WallNutz" and, "The Painted Zebra" (not sure which I like more, though). They are memorable and the names sort of describe what it is your business offers. And both would give interesting options for a logo!

Suggestions on company names: Lovingly Designed, Designed with Love, Creative Design, Creatively Designed, Creative Creations, Children's Corner, Colorful Creations by K., Custom Art. These are a few suggestions that I came up with. I hope you like some of them. It's always a plus to begin the name of your company with A, B,or C so you are one of the first listings a potential client will see when looking for a professional in your field. My company name begins with AB and it has been very successful for me. However, a cleaver name will also bring you good business.

What a great business! We painted a mural with our kids in one room when they were younger. How about: Fanciful Expressions, The Painted Pony, Beyond the 100 Acre Woods, Dreamland Murals. When you get going you should check into a website and then you can add a long list of possible words(meta tags) that people might google on the internet to find great wall/painting ideas. Perhaps you could link up with local baby or furniture stores and have them carry a brochure for you or get them to add your weblink to their site. How abaout Babies Haven? because the baby neeeds to feel like they are comfortable with their surroundings and special because it is specialized to them.
From a marketing perspective, you want to brand a name that is memorable, distinct, and preferably related to your line of products. The names that you gave as an example require either visibility from location (Painted Zebra) or lots of branding activity to get customers to know what that name means (Hairy Elephant)
I'd suggest you having a brainstorming party with at least six people who know you well to gather lots of great ideas.

I'm trying to plan on a move, I would like to buy this time instead of rent. I would love for you to show me what you can do and possibly do my son's room when I move. He's only 6 months now, so at that time he'll be a toddler. I've been thinking that it would be nice to do some kind of theme/painting in his room when I move, but I know I'm not an artist.
