My husband and I are flying to visit my sister-in-law in Germany. The flight is 14 hours and I am looking for some new and creative ideas to keep her busy on the flight.

What can I do next?

Well I took my daughter on her plane ride when she was about 3-4 yrs old. You would be surprised how entertained they can get w/their own cd player with their favorite songs. May not last the whole trip but will definitely help. Good Luck.

Hi L.,

I have 6 kids and always find that flying can be challenging! Lots and lots of high energy individual snacks and tons of drinks..when you think you have enough..pack more! Add some treats too for when you need a little bribery...lol!

As far as activities...go to the nearest dollar store! Cut paper into shapes at home and then give her stickers to decorate them. Cut out pictures in magazines (or of family you are going to see) and bring glue sticks. Workbooks are fun. A couple of small dolls and toys she hasn't seen before. A new puzzle or two. A collection of new plastic toy animals..the trick is lots and lots of new stuff. None of it needs to be expensive but being able to switch activities every few minutes is the lifesaver. Punch holes in paper plates and let her string a shoelace through it. Hit the crayola aisle and get some of those markers that only work on special paper...fascinating and no mess. Playdough and cookie cutters. New sticker story books. Card games. Colorforms. (remember don't pack any scissors not even kid ones!)...

hope this helps.

L.

The motion of the plane always mademy kids sleepy. So they always slept at least hours of the flight. I bring magna doodles, crayons and small toys that are new to keep them entertained.
Have a good time.

Hello L.~

I just wanted to recommend Crayola Color Wonders. A good friend said it was amazing she never showed her son them before the trip so it was his first introduction to finger paints (he was 11 months old @ the time). There is no mess just a little bit of water needs to be added to them. And she said it was better than a car or other toys because he had to sit on her lap in order to do them. She had played with crayons prior to the trip so he had a clue how the paper can have colors but colorless finger painting she said you would have thought it was like magic to him....hope this helps. I plan to try it out in July when we drive to NY. If you try it can you let me know how it goes for you? She also said they pack nicely and are great pics to hand out to passengers….
