I'm in my first trimester w/ my 2nd child. I have gas really bad, and it's really uncomfortable. I didn't have any problems w/ this w/ my first child. What foods should I avoid? And, what can I take to make the pain ease up?

Congrats! I am in my first trimester and get bad gas too. I try to go for walks and get exercise which seems to help. When I have gas cramps I try and do sit ups to help push them out. I would try and stay away from beans and onions and olivs which are known to give people gas. Hope this helps you!

I had bought the gas-relief drops for my first baby, but there is also an adult dosage so I tried it for my gas. It's safe and works well and probably costs less than gasX

Try beano and/or gas-x to help get rid of the gas. Limit or avoid beans (the magical fruit), onions, garlic... and you'll just have to pay attention to what else gives you gas. To help get rid of pain --- rub peppermint oil on your tummy. Suck on peppermint candies or chew pepperment gum or drink peppermint tea. And try and have a sense of humor about it.

Gas is such an embarrassing part of pregnancy! I would ask your doctor or the pharmacist what you can take. I know you can take Tums for acid indigestion, heartburn, and sour stomach, which usually leads to gas! Taking fiber is also a good move. I've been taking Benefiber with Folic Acid. You can also find fiber in foods, so if you want to go al-natural you could do that!

Ugh, I will never forget the gassiness I had while pregnant too! The things we endure for the cute babies, huh? One suggestion I read in a book (What to Expect when you are Expecting, I think) is to sit and rock in a rocking chair. Something about the motion helps move the gas through your system. Hang in there, and good luck!

Talk to your OB about what you can and cannot take. Some things like GasX work, but make sure it is safe during pregnancy. Our bodies do different things with each pregnancy. Brocolli, fried foods, beans of any nature cause gas for the most part. Maalox can relieve gas too, just check with your Dr first.

A.,
you will be surprised; CHARCOAL is the emergency kit,
just in case for you to know: even a stick of charcoal for drawing - ask artists! - and if you have a
stove/fireplace/campfire,
you can munch on some black 'charcoaled' piece of wood,
and all the gas goes pout fast!
this is for emergency, as i say, because if it starts bothering you when you are on the 9th month,
you will not think twice to get ANY help availabe...

Soda, fastfood, grapes, raisins are not recommended.
fruit and dessert with fruit AFTeR the main course are always a danger for getting gas problems:
they recommend to eat fruit first, then after about 15-30 minutes - other food....

wishing you well!

I had the same problem when pregnant with both of my kids. I live on X-tra Strength Gas-X which my dr said was safe to take while pregnant. Also, try eating smaller meals, or snack throughout the day, instead of eating 3 larger meals/day. I found it very hard to do, but avoid beans, broccoli, and onions. The gas/bloating problem eased up considerably with my first child in the 4th month, and about the 5th month with my son. Hang in there!

I didn't see it on here yet. Garlic was a problem for me when I was pregnant. It knotted up my stomach something fierce.

Often times for me, sleeping at night would be hard. Sleep on your belly on a belly, and embaressing to say it as it is but it works, get on all fours and stick your rump in the air. I don't know why but that help to relieve some of the pressure and it seems easier for it too pass. SOrry about the discomfort. You could take baths, have heat packs. Pepto Bismol. I personally think that alot of the time Doctors say you can't take alot of different medications mainly for liabilities. But if the mother is stressed out, the baby will be as well. So if your in a lot of pain take the pepto, or something to help. Just try not to take something over the counter.

Try chewable (or not) papaya tablets from the health food store (or dried papaya) OR ginger chews (or dried ginger). Both are digestive aids that can help alieviate the issue while food is in your stomach/before it hits the intestines. Also helps with heartburn and ginger is good for anti-nausea.

As you've probably heard, avoid: greasy, rich, heavy dairy, cruciferous, processed: think simple, whole foods. Good luck.

OH! I totally understand what you are going through!! I had that problem with both my pregnancies and it was horrrible! The only relief I found was GasX and even that didn't help a whole lot. Well also I would lay on my left side/stomach with right leg bent and the other one straight. That kinda helped let it out. or get on your knees and rest your head on a pillow and elevate your bottom for a bit lol kinda helps too. I asked my doctor about it and he said there's not much else you can do. Another thing I would recommend is to just let it out whenever you can {giggle} If you hold it in it will only become more painful. Luckily for me it only lasted a few weeks into the 2nd trimester and then it wasn't a problem from then on. Good luck!
Oh Oh and Peppermint! anything peppermint should help! Peppermint tea, peppermint candy, etc. DUH! I cant believe I forgot about that! it works better then GasX anyway. And I even used peppermint for my babies when they had uncomfortable gas.

Good luck! When I was pregnant, I had to avoid lots of Asian foods (for some reason, those always upset my stomach), onions, peppers, cabbage, cole slaw, brocolli, anything greasy or fried. My doctor also said to watch how much dairy and cheese I was eating. All these things helped during my pregnancy and also when I was nursing (a gassy baby is never fun, as I'm sure you know).

I noticed that when I developed a regular exercise routine, my whole digestive thing got incredibly better -- constipation, diarrhea, gas & gas pain. I've always been a healthy eater, but adding exercise to the routine did the trick. I hope that can work for you too!

I discovered that while pregnant, I became lactose intolerant. The more dairy I ate or drank, the more gas I had. It lasts only during pregnancy and goes away after the baby is born. Broccoli, beans, and other really fibrous veggies also contribute to gas.

The only thing I found that works for me was to take two TUMS and then lay on my side for a little while. The TUMS neutralize the stomach acids that contribute to the gas build up. I've also been told by my doctor that Pepto-Bismol is safe to take during pregnancy, but I can't remember if its supposed to help with gas or not.

I would suggest eating green seedless grapes. I had gas pains really bad while pregnant, and was eating green grapes when my stomach was relieved. I started eating them almost daily while pregnant.

Avoid, chocolate, coffee, and anything spicy.. Fiber can make you gassy too. But don't completely delete from your diet because you need it right now. I wouldn't recommend taking anything to ease the pain I would just change your diet. Less processed food is a good suggestion too.

Hope that helps!

GAS X.

Buy it at Costco! I had terrible gas with my second and third pregnancies. Oftentimes I would be curled up in a fetal position (sometimes on the kitchen floor) unable to move because it hurt so bad. It typically happened in the afternoon and I was never quite able to figure out why.

Take 2 Gas X and the pain is relieved quite quickly. I kept them everywhere and I took them a lot. They are safe to take during pregnancy!

Hang in there!
