So What Happened?

my doctor has assured me that getting the CP is safe. He suggested I wait to get her the vaccine and only give of if she doesn't get the CP in the next year or so. The CP are not dangerous for a healthy child. It's the mumps that can cause sterility in a boy. The CP vaccine wears off in about 10 years so of you wait too long for a booster as an adult you can end up with the CP as an adult which is much worse. How many of us in our 20s or 30s or over remember to get our boosters?

I know you didn't ask for advice, but you did consider the fact that chickpox can leave lasting scars on your child's body/face? Also if you have a boy, they can become sterile if it is a bad enough case. And then again, if it is a mild enough case, they are not immune and can contract them again. Also shingles is a form of chickenpox that you can never get rid of.

Like Sarah said... there are a lot more risks with actually having Chickpox verses that shot... My kids had the chickenpox. My youngest was 6 months old. IT WAS HORRIBLE! VERY SAD to watch.

I would look into it more.

Blessings,

No vaccine is proven to be 100% safe. They all have risks of serious side effects. D., out of curiosity, would you mind sharing your doctor's name with me? I am looking for a pediatrician who is a little more open-minded with regards to selectively vaccinating.

Thank you,

J.

My son was vaccinated for Chicken Pox when he was 2, at 4 he contracted Chicken Pox at pre-school. He had a very mild case and the doctor said it was because he had the vaccine. My daughter contracted Chicken Pox at age 11 months, she had not been vaccinated because she was too young. She had a very bad case, she was miserable as well as the entire family.
I think the vaccine is well worth it, even if they do contract it it will be a much milder case then without the vaccine.
Good luck.

I would think about it a bit more before wanting to have your child get them...It is absolutely miserable for the child and unnecessary since there is a vaccine that is proven to be safe. It's just not worth the risk and discomfort to your child IMO.
