My kids love Llama Llama Red Pajama by Ann Dewdney.
It talks about the mother being near even though she is not right there.
My 2 1/2 year old daughter has bedtime issues. She always asks a lot of questions at bedtime such as "What's that noise" "It is dark outside". She comes out of her room at night and sleeps in the hallway. I am not sure if she is afraid of the dark, of noises, of being alone. She has a nightlight. She doesn't complain of nightmares or anything. She likes to be read to so I was wondering if there are any good books that I could read to her that are about going to sleep. Does anyone have any suggestions?

My daughters read Good Night Moon from about 2.5 to almost 3.5 every night. I think we all knew it by heart, and now if they pick that book, they "read" along with me. My daughters still ask about "noises" and i try and explain what it could possibly be - the neighbor pulling in/out the driveway, a car driving down the road, the dog jumping off the couch etc. In addition, we pull open the blinds each night to see that it is dark out, because that means its time for sleeping to them, and I can chime in that its too late to be awake if its dark out (that turns around and bites me in the rear come spring when we turn the clocks forward though :-)). I think a lot of the questions are a tactic to stay awake, say one more thing to mommy, or to simply see me for another moment before i close the door.
Goodnight Moon is a favorite amongst kids!
The first one that comes to mind is GOODNIGHT MOON. HOWEVER, I used to work at a children's bookstore and KNOW there are others. It's just been several years and I can't think of anything else other than THERE'S A MONSTER UNDER MY BED. There is also one about a little bunny going to sleep but I can't for the life of me remember what the name of the book is.
Honestly, if you ask at a bookstore, they can look things up by category and they should be able to help you out.
There is also Goodnight Moon.
Also what I did with mine when they were little and heard weird noises is sit outside in the dark with them and have them wiat until we heard the noise and I would tell them what it was and most likely where the creature was making it. We wrapped in a blanket and just sat in the dark. Of course it was around 10 so not a CRAZY hour for them to be awake just way later than normal bed time. We even went for a few walks and called them "night walks". I got that idea from a cartoon they used to watch (Little Bear perhaps). good luck
I used to let my son listen to cds. Sometimes he would listen to classical or stories on cd.he loved it. There are tons of options- just be sure the ones you choose are comforting and relaxing versus ones that may make her want to dance or scare her. Good luck
Besides Good Night Moon, my 2yr old likes the books Good Night Sweet Butterflies and Barnyard Dance (auth. Sandra Boyton)This author also wrote the book Pajama Time. My daughter likes Guess how much I love you and I love you, Too. We read these ones at night time and she loves them.
Hi J.! My daughter had a favorite story for bedtime titled "I Love You Stinky Face". It was a cute book about a boy asking his mom questions like "If I was a (whatever creature) what would you do?" and the mom always telling him that she would love him. I am an Usborne Books Consultant so I also have to say that we have a few very cute bedtime story books. My favorite is "Night - Night Stories". It is a book of stories about animals going to bed and the illustrations are so great. If you are interested you can check out my Usborne Books & More website at: www.myubam.com/C3029 . Good Luck!
There are LOTS of good books about night time and sleep. You should probably try some out from the library and see which become her favorites. Here are some of my favorites:
1. Llama Llama Red Pajama by Anna Dewdy
2.I Don't Want To Go To Bed! by Julie Sykes
3.Time For Bed by Mem Fox
4.I Love You Stinky Face by Lisa McCourt and of course 5.Guess How Much I Love You by Sam McBratney.
If the issue is fear, I recommend Go Away Dark Night by Liz Curtis Higgs. This one has Bible verses to go along with the text.
Hi J.,
